Moneysaving:
- After my freezer audit yesterday, i decided to do a bit of meal planning……in the end i worked out a month of main meals which will take us up to my dh’s payday in March. I have used a lot of the things in the freezer that need eating up on my meal plan, so hopefully we wont have to spend much out of our food budget over the next month 👏👏👏.
Allotment:
- This morning when i was at my allotment it was very windy…..the fence i fixed last week was blowing about in different places this time, so i sent the morning ‘wedging’ it up with old fence posts and tying up in places to make it stronger ready for the storms this afternoon and again later in the week.
Wellbeing:
- I ‘flew’ down to the allotment on my bike this morning as the wind was behind me lol….but oh my goodness it was so hard on the way home with the wind blowing in my face…..but i did it.
- I am a bit worried about my dd1’s house…..today they are having the bathroom re-done and my dd1 was so excited. The bathroom chap started by pulling the tiles off the wall and found a crack underneath the old tiles in the wall. The bathroom chap does houses up himself to resell so he is going to ask his builder friend to come and have a look. My dd1 and partner only brought the house in July 2020 and subsidence wasn’t picked up on the survey, so I’m keeping everything crossed its not this…..we will have to wait to find out what the builder says. Im going to try really hard not to worry…..worst case scenario they are insured.
Anyway, that’s it for today. I hope the storms don’t do any damage to anyone, especially up north where the storms are strongest

Moneysaving/ household savings:
- Tomorrow is pay day for my dh, so after writing my diary today I’m going to work out how well we have stuck to our budgets this month, though i think we have more or less done ok. I do know we haven’t spent so much on petrol this month as we have hardly driven the car due to it being off the road most of the time…..i’m praying the ford garage will finally find out what is actually wrong with it and fix it once and for all on Monday when it is booked in with them.
- It looks as though my dh will get paid this payday (tomorrow) for the holiday he hasn’t used, as his holiday year ends on the 31/3 and he was given the option to ‘give up’ 5 days which he did…..we are excited to see how much extra he will come out with. He does still have 3 holiday days to use before 31/3 so I’m not sure when he will take them.
Allotment:
- I went to my allotment today expecting a lot of damage on the site due to the high winds yesterday, but i was pleasantly surprised. There was one polytunnel on a plot that had blown over but to be honest there was nothing holding it down, so I’m surprised it hadn’t blown away before now. When i checked my plot over i found that a cheap metal arch that i brought a few years ago from wilko had snapped one of the legs (which i fixed quite easily with a spare metal pole from an old mini greenhouse and three cable ties) and i also found i had to re-secure a bit of the fence that had come a bit loose…..but apart from that my plot is now ready for ‘round two’ of the storms tomorrow. Im keeping fingers crossed everything will be ok.
Wellbeing:
- We had good news from my dd1 last night as the builder came and checked the crack in her bathroom (that the bathroom fitter found under the old tiles) and it is definitely NOT subsidence thank goodness….this ties in with the house survey they had only two years ago when they brought the house, which also said there was no trace of any subsidence. Ive got to say i was very relieved for them.
- My knees are fine now, but i have decided to stick with cycling to my allotment instead of the ‘couch to 5k’ as i really don’t want bad knees again. It takes me approximately 35 minutes to cycle there and back each time and I’m hoping this will be just as good for me.
Anyway that’s it for today….i really hope the storm tomorrow passes by with out damaging too much 🤞🤞🤞

Today’s quote:
“The pessimist complaints about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails”
(I think i must be a realist by how much i’ve strengthened my allotment fence this week 😀😀😀)
- Well it’s a quiet day inside of ‘post-menopause towers’……wish i could say the same outside as its blowing a gale. I spoke to my daughter this morning in her university accommodation in wales and she has assured me she is staying in for the day as her university have cancelled all the lectures for the day due to being in the ‘red area’ of the storm.
- First thing this morning the sun was shining and it was quite calm here, so i walked the dog before the storm…. it was so peaceful with just the birds singing (i think most people were at home because it’s half term where we live and also people were staying home to avoid the storm).
- Ive also worked our money out and found that we were a couple of pounds under all our budgets ie food, spending etc for this month, so I’m pleased with this. I obviously had my menopause head on today though as i was convinced it was the 20th of February today which is my dh payday…..it finally dawned on me it isn’t the 20th so i will have to wait until Sunday to find out how much we can save towards our kitchen mortgage 😂😂😂.
- No allotment today due to the storm….praying there is no damage there and my polytunnel and fence are still standing when i check the plot over tomorrow.
- My dd1 came round this morning for a shower as she is off work today and the bathroom man has ripped everything out….she is staying all day….so we are going to have a look for a girlie film on net flix now.
Anyway, hope everyone stays safe

“And then there are days when you must rest”
Last night after dinner i had terrible stomach ache and so i went to bed early….i had been worrying all day about possible wind damage at my allotment and at home, so i think i may have triggered my IBS. Anyway i slept it off and my stomach just felt ‘bruised’ this morning as it does after an episode.
This morning i got up early and I cycled to my allotment and amazingly everything on my plot was fine, though a couple of people on site had lost their polytunnels which is sad. While i was there my nose started running and i began to feel a bit under the weather so i came home….my goodness that was one of the longest bike rides i have done due to me not feeling well.
When i got home i did a covid test just to check and it was negative so i sat down for the rest of the morning under a blanket feeling cold. I dragged myself up to walk the dog and then managed to sort our lunch out with my dh and Ive now got changed into my PJ’s and I’m going to just sit and watch tv for the rest of the day and maybe have a nap.
Hopefully ill feel a lot better tomorrow
