Happy New Year!
Dull and grey here - my brother has wind and rain so I'm guessing you're somewhere near himMy mum has sunshine... another reason to consider moving back to where I grew up!
Not very motivated here either - I need to finish unpacking from being away, and make a start on getting the house organised for what's going to be a very, very busy time at work. Thankfully preparing for NY visitors (cancelled due to a positive PCR on my brother's part) means that upstairs is clean and tidy already - although I've brought a rug home from my mum's to replace the threadbare one in the spare room which means moving furniture. Downstairs, however, is chaotic and slightly depressing so needs fixing. Hopefully we can both have a productive day ... I'm still drinking coffee in bed8 -

First of the month round-up....
Movement during December 2021: +£1213.58
Money needed as at 1 January 2022: £271,411.22
Pensions have gone crackers again! The only new money that's gone into the figures this month is a statutory-minimum pension contribution, so almost all of that is growth. Bonkers!
As it's the start of a new year, I thought I'd do an annual comparison, but it turns out I wasn't calculating it in the same format this time last year, so here's one from 01/03/21 - 01/01/22....
Movement during (the last 10 months of) 2021:
+£17,743.90 🤯🤯🤯
Money needed as at 1 March 2021: £289,155.12
That's mad 😮! But very pleasing!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

I found the same when I looked at my S&S ISA! It was tempting to cash it in and take the profit. But then there's nowhere else to put it... cash will just lose value over time.8

You are right re. equity prices, it has been mad money for a while now. My Vanguard SIPP shows growth of 50%+ since I opened it less than 2 years ago. Am I a mad financial genius? Am I heck - I transferred into a basic blended fund a few weeks before Covid struck, missed the initial downturn and then caught all the benefits of the upswing and currency shifts since then!4
