Just reporting in that I tackled another box of 'like with like' from study floor. 99% went into recycling - letters and memorabilia that only mean anything to me or my late mum. A few items selected for the children's boxes and for scanning. I intend to take them to recycling unit tomorrow rather than wait for fortnightly collection. Now the decision is made they need to leave. Early morning task checking on plastic boxes and lids! DS2 was moaning last night whilst he was making up his lunches for the week. There is actually a lid for each box and no spares but they had got jumbled up. None to throw away. There are about 8 boxes of CDs and DVDs of DS2s which will have to go in the loft but at least they are his and all together.
Taking small ones swimming this morning and then I have a meeting this afternoon. They go back to school Thursday which should make things less hectic. I should be able to join a local walk tomorrow then I have two meetings Thursday. The Monday history group which I have attended for many years, but which has been suspended through Covid, will not be able to meet again due to sad ill health of leader's wife.
There are three large boxes left to tackle in study but think they are mostly the photos.
612 Large box of papers sorted and mostly recycled
613 Weeding and trimming in garden
614 Swept garage out - I definitely have critters visiting in garage but I am careful to make sure no food is left out there and there is no sign of nesting. Guess they go in there hunting for things or to keep warm.2025 Decluttering Campaign 590/2025 🏅🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅) 🌟🌟

I'm fighting the urge to hide under the bedclothes. Not done much but have done a little bit each day - broken clock out, spike thing for baked potatoes (brought from mum's but it's a bit flimsy and the potatoes pull it over), time outside, chopping up ivy so more will fit in the bin, someone took the garden chair I sit on, so that's another item gone.
Doing lots of 'extras'. A small task every time I'm on my feet (even if it's only to the bathroom) and when I had something to put in the bin bag, I gathered an extra handful (from any flat surface including on top of the fridge freezer). Considerable progress on finding the kitchen and living room floors and I have a small area of worktop and the top of the cooker clear (both need cleaning).
There are some 'large' jobs that need tackling but don't have the energy (eg moving the bed) so spending some time thinking about the best way to do it, can I get what I want (Mainly better access to the lower cubes in the cube shelves) some other way. Awarding myself 10 for the past 3 days and an extra 5 for the effort involved and 'making' myself keep going (with lots of resting), 1427/ 2022. There will be a time for hiding under the bedclothes, just not now - if I stop, it will be so hard to start again so just keeping ticking over and being kind to myself the rest of the time. I may set some seeds off, as a reward. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage12 -
@dustydigger, I understand how hard it is with sentimental items or emotions are too tied into them. Could you ask your children is there anything they would like to keep as reminders of their relatives, that way you can see if when you are gone they will just throw it all away. Not a nice thought but many children don’t want to have other people’s things and if you know what will happen to it maybe it will help you make decisions over them, you could perhaps pick a couple of items to keep then take photos of the rest before taking to somewhere they will be of use to those who have very little. Charity shops or refuges for the homeless setting up home or refugees with nothing. If you can use it everyday and pass your regular everyday crockery on to charity shop instead. Then you can use the pretty glasses and plates, which will make you happy they are being used and remind you of the people they came from.
i started to use crystal glasses everyday and got rid of boring cheap glasses. It’s just a suggestion, and I wish you luck with your decluttering.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.16 -
Sneaking back onto the train after real life derailed me for a bit... work has been hectic due to it being financial year end for my team and the official notice that my contract comes to an end in June. I may have landed a new job already, but am waiting for a formal contract offer before I can breathe out entirely.
I spent yesterday actually putting away laundry while I sorted out a work wardrobe (more time in the office now likely) and managed to declutter a few extra items that way. I need to do more, because I have more clothes than space. I refuse to buy a new wardrobe, so less clothing it has to be... I now have a huge pile to ebay as well.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

1. Write a daily To Do list - only 5 tasks
2. Deal with Old Frogs & potential frogs ASAP but at least one on FROG Fridays.
3. Reduce/Restrict time watching TV and playing AB2 during daylight hours 😉
4. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Monday was reasonably warm but not as much sunshine - lots of white clouds.
I finished the great larder sort out including listing contents. Decanted several foodstuffs & managed to empty & remove 2 plastic storage boxes. Also wrote up contents of the kitchen under sink cupboard. Each of the 4 larder shelves is now tidy with contents a lot easier to access 🥳 No more ood foodstuffs 🙂 Dinner was remainder of duck, pheasant, pork & venison with mash & baked beans. Wudupa.
Tuesday is a dull overcast day. DH has had a bath & is feeling a lot better. The sharp stabbing pains from the rash are becoming fewer so hopefully another week will see the end of the pain 🤞
660 - 662 Kitchen recycling, cardboard packaging, plastic lid - recycled
663 Kitchen detritus binned
What a busy day Deni_debt-free_dreamer & excellent decluttering 👏 I was trying to remember the strangest thing I have ever kept but drew a blank 😉 memory is going 😔
Fizz2015 sounds like a lovely few days with family & nice to let the parents have a few restful days 🙂 Wishing you lots of luck with the car boot sales 🍀
What a lovely weekend basketcase - spending time with your DD ☺️ The 15 minute stints of decluttering are definitely working for you 👏 and thanks for the calculation 👏
91.25 hours is a hefty chunk of time spent decluttering 🥳 I really like your list of Dailies 🙂 especially as currently I am only managing one of mine 😔 and I love the idea of partnering up to declutter - “And instead of loads of categories of stuff (Keep, Bin, Sell, CS, Decide in 6 months and so on), you could just have Useful, Obvious Rubbish and What-the-Heck-Are-You-Keeping-THIS-For?! “ Perhaps I should use this idea coupled with ‘only touch once’ - I need something to get me out of the funk I am in 😩 Btw excellent decluttering 👏
Great work florianatwobob 👏
I will be back later - iPad is still playing up - I know I have to bite the bullet & buy a new one 😭

Finally gave my car a good valet. Loads of junk removed from the boot, glove compartments, magazine holders etc, as well as finding another £1 coin down the back of my driver's seat (mine clearly!)
Also found a USB data stick under the passenger's chair (only 512mg) and a USB-C data cable wrapped round a seatbelt socket on the backseat.
It's amazing what kind of junk one can find in one's own car!13 -
My husband took a bag to the charity shop today and I have another bag for him tomorrow. I decided to get rid of all my glass storage containers as I can't be bothered to bubble wrap them to move, lol. I don't think they particularly save space or anything so I think I will just store rice, pasta, lentils etc... in the packets they come in!
I cannot believe we still have things to donate after decluttering so much.2025 GOALS

Back again 😉 I have spent the time (whilst iPad charging) to clean inside & outside of the double kitchen cupboard containing mugs, cafetière, teabags, coffee etc. I washed all the crockery & glasses, decanted 2 containers of one cup chocolate sachets into one open box, unboxed my 2 cup espresso stove top pot (from 2005 😱) I have rearranged the contents to make frequently used contents easily accessible for my vertically challenged DSis 😉 There is even a smidgeon of space on each of the 3 shelves 😁

Welcome aboard dustydigger 👋 What an interesting life 🙂 Not too sure I could cope with being the custodian of all the family’s beautiful things but as they are safely displayed then the decision on where they go can be put on the back burner 🙂 I am full of admiration that your 2017 decluttering campaign has meant you have been keeping surfaces clear of clutter - a great habit to have & for 5 years now 👏 Not sure what to suggest re OH’s pack rat nature 🧐 Maybe a gentle chat suggesting that he might prefer to choose what goes rather than leaving it to the family (in the distant future 😉) who might just take one look & decide to throw everything without sorting 😔 As to your children I do have one suggestion (tell me to mind my own business if you have already thought of it - I won’t be offended 🙂) So here goes - each time one of your children visits give them a box of their stuff 😉 plus when you visit them take a box of their stuff with you 😂 So again welcome aboard the EDT & I look forward to reading about all your inevitable successes 🙂
You are welcome GrannyKate 🙂 Excellent decluttering & how nice that DS2 is aboard 👏
Excellent work Guineapigsqueaks 👏 As to the chocolate what a great idea ☺️
weenancyinAmerica, wow you have been very busy 👏 I am exceedingly impressed at the book sale organisation - should make the rest of the year’s book sales easier & quicker to prepare 🙂 Excellent work on the Room of Doom, it sounds like the end is in sight. Love the organisational ideas 🥳
marrob, what naughty decluttering mojo ‘wagging finger emoji’ Well done for finding it 👏Mine appears to go on holiday at the drop of a hat 😂 Thank you for reminding us that it took years to build our clutter mountains so will take some time to clear but as long as we keep going we will win 🥳 Excellent decluttering by the way 👏
Great work EnergyShifter 👏
Excellent work mehefin 👏
Great work short_bird 👏 Hopefully your spending day won’t be too painful 🤞
You are definitely on a roll GrannyKate - excellent work especially disposing of 90% of the contents 👏 Very pleased to hear that you are managing to find some time for yourself amidst all the meetings & child care 🙂 Sending get well wishes to your friends wife.
mothernerd, I am awarding you a medal 🏅 for resisting the urge to hide under the bedclothes 🙂 I love the idea of doing a small extra task each time you stand up so I will try to join you in that - make a conscious decision to start with which will hopefully turn into a habit 🤞Have just started by clearing away some bubble wrap from the table to my stash of wrapping materials 😉 Keep up the good work 👏
What a thoughtful post wort ☺️ Such great ideas for dustydigger 👏
No need to sneak back aboard the EDT bargainbetty 😉 once aboard you are part of the decluttering family 🙂 Sorry to hear that RL has kept you too busy to declutter as much as you would have liked 😔 Great work on tackling your clothing 👏 & a medal 🏅 on its way for deciding to declutter rather than buy another wardrobe 😂
Great work ZolaBuddy 👏 I did smile at the eclectic items you found in your car 🙂
Wednesday2000 what a brave decision 😉 but I can see where you are coming from - glass storage jars take up so much space 😔 When is your moving date?
🥳 I have caught up 🥳
