Right, I've had it with car insurance 🙄 I've spent over an hour and can't find anything substantially cheaper, so just going to let it renew.
Annoying, as it's £130 more expensive than last year, but I suppose that's only £11 or so extra a month, and we know everything's gone up...
Renewal quote is £606. Tried a couple of multi car policies and can't get cheaper than £720. Ran through the MSE comparison tool with one car and it only came out £10 cheaper over the year. Not sure I can face the comparison tool with the other can, and the other person's details, only to have to go back through it all again. I do prefer having them on the same policy!
So I'm admitting defeat. Annoying, and probably not in the MSE spirit of things, but there we are. I'm willing to do a LOT of messing about for financial gain 😂 But for some reason insurance comparison just gets my goat. I think it's the fear of missing a small detail in amongst all the faffing and not being properly covered!
So I'll let it autorenew, although annoyingly it doesn't actually take the payment. They say they'll be in touch to request the outstanding balance, so I think I'll just wait for that - if I ring them now and they start wanting to go through all the cover details over the phone then I might not behave like my best self 🙄😂9 -
I had the same problem with DH's car insurance - just couldn't get anything cheaper. His insurance had gone up nearly £200 for the year! So have auto renewed with them. Just hope when it's time to insure my car it doesn't go up as much as it's only a small car not a big one like his!8

I always phone up the insurance company and just tell them the % increase they have applied and politely point out we are loyal customers no claims made and say can you help me at all with this price increase? They always give me about 5% off. Worth a phone call and no lengthy questions asked by them .

Ours isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things. That £600 is for both cars, both over 15 years old, over 150,000 miles, and with a bit of business use.5 -

The credit record stuff is odd at best. My score has dropped. In the Experian one because of the insurance soft searches (comparison checks) apparently, and on the other because I still have paid my credit card off in full for several years. Not because they have realised that I'm unemployed yet. There is no logic to it.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Good point about mortgage Cheery - I’d forgotten the land/age issues.
