Sorry you didn't get the job but would you want to work somewhere so disorganized they can't even let job candidates know about their application especially after such a long time to get to the interview stage.3

Sorry to hear about the job, but as has been said, they're probably looking for a purple unicorn, and their organisation skills would drive you to drink.4

I think Grumplestiltskin nailed it - that's definitely a possibility isn't it. I also agree on the poor organisation aspect too - I would think if they were like that when you were actually working there then it would have the potential to drive you nuts!
Sorry to hear about MrC Senior's Dog as well - I imagine he is utterly lost without his little pal isn't he? 19 though - that's a grand old age indeed - says a lot for what a happy life the older Mr C must have given him.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Cheery might correct me, but I think that level of disorganisation isn't uncommon in higher education! It certainly has been my experience of working with academics (both in my self-employed work and in my Cambridge roles).Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Sorry to see you didn't get the job Cheery. There are so many universities facing budget cuts at the moment that it wouldn't surprise me if they were just casting out a bit of a line to see what they could get for the money, didn't get the entire bells and whistles they wanted and so decided to write it off.
On the plus side you now don't need to adapt to the longer commute and do fulltime hours! Or you could have been there 6 months and then discovered the whole department was under threat of the swinging axe.
I also echo the comments on disorganisation in higher ed. Sometimes I think so much attention is focused on getting all the students set up and running that they completely forget the staff (both academic and professional services) need attention too."You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.
