Urgh, not great news at the dentist ๐ I have a crown attached to a bridge - had to have root canal under it (which he really should have done first but was in a rush ๐) and it's just not settled - still sore after over 6 months ๐
So just trying to remember my options.
1. Do nothing - it may turn into an access at some point, and in the meantime I'll carry on eating on the wrong side of my mouth
2. Have the tooth taken out - won't be anything to attach a bridge to though, so a two tooth gap within my smile ๐ย
3. Tooth taken out and a fixed denture - I think she said this comes under the NHS band 3 charge so about ยฃ300
4. Tooth taken out and a flexible denture - I think she may have said about ยฃ1100 for this - should have got them all written down!
5. Go to a private specialist to try and do root canal again and save the tooth - about ยฃ800-1000 (but obviously might not work and we're back to where we are now)
6. Have it taken out and implants put in - about ยฃ3000 (was that each?? I remember being total, but it's irrelevant as I'm not paying that anyway!)
๐ย
Still, I've managed to get a parking permit for work from 12.30 so I'll only have to pay for 3 hours of parking, so that'll save me a few quid ๐7 -
Must be a day for dentists. I have to have an extraction arranged at my check up back in July earliest appointment was November then they cancelled that and rearranged for today.ยSounds like an expensive do for you.
ย I think my teeth are giving up the fight seem to have more gaps than teethย5 -
Probably going the same way myself ๐
I hate anything to do with teeth. Feels like a big moral failing that I've not managed to keep them healthy and well. I look after them a lot better now than I used to but it doesn't seem to make much difference. I had fillings in my baby teeth, maybe they're just made of something particularly crumbly ๐
Anyway, please do share relevant experiences if you have any. I'm going to ask around, and also talk to my colleague who used to be a dentist. Just remembered my mum has what she refers to as a plate (which i think must be an acrylic denture) so I'll see how she gets on with that - she doesn't mention it at all so I assume it's not giving her trouble!3 -
I have precisely no dental experience relevant or otherwise as I think you know. I've also never flossed or anything like that, just brushed twice a day and eaten a reasonable number of apples! (And I confess I've been through stages where the twice a day thing may not have been a constant phenomena either) so I honestly do think a lot is to do with genetics rather than anything else. Both my parents also have/had relatively trouble-free teeth, whereas MrEH's Mum's always tended towards tooth issues, and so does he. definitely NOT any sort of failing, moral or otherwise, andย more to do with the genetic lottery IMO.ย๐ MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 ๐ And now we go againโฆNew mortgage taken 01/09/23 ๐ก

Thank you xx Both my parents have always had tooth trouble, and my dad now has none at all (and no dentures ๐) so it's not surprising I struggle so much.
(Although I have always had a rather sweet tooth so I can't be excused from all blame!!)6 -
My Dad has terrible teeth and a bad dental phobia, and I've definitely inherited some of the latter from him."You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.

Well my mum had all her teeth out by the time she was 30. There are 8 children and I think they used to say you lost a tooth for every child! My dentist says I am doin everything I can but my gums are fighting my teeth. He is now doing what he calls a deep clean every 4 months which involves many injections of pain relief and a lot of scraping with that sharp thing they use, not pleasant at all. The tooth they are removing is causing pain as he says the gums are ย inflamed underneath but it has eased a lot since I mentioned it back in July when it was permanently like an electric shock. I had to stop using my sonic toothbrush and go back to manual as the two just didnโt mix. Will see what he has to say later though I am not sure my gums are up to implants and dentures donโt appeal (still have visions of my mums teeth soaking overnightโฆโฆโฆ.) at least Iโve almost reached pension age with most of my teeth intact. I feel a bit of Pam Ayers coming on

Spoke too soon appointment cancelled by dentist so will keep my current number of teeth til next year๐๐๐๐๐4

Oh no, that's annoying! I found I've been transferred to a new dentist this morning, my old one is still there, but has given up NHS patients altogether. To be honest I'm quite glad of the transfer - the old one was fine, but he cancelled an awful lot of appointments at short notice. Fingers crossed the new one is better!
Had a reply from the LPG people - they did fit a telemetry device to the tank, but it's not active yet, and they'll let me know when it is. No indication of how long that'll take, so I guess I just need to ignore the fact that it exists and do manual readings as usual. Last time I looked (admittedly a few weeks ago and I didn't update online because I thought it was automatic) we still had 55% so we should be fine well into the new year, although obviously it goes down pretty quickly at this time of year.ย
Got just over ยฃ1000 in the LPG pot at the minute, and we add ยฃ170 a month. Earliest I reckon we'd get a delivery is mid Jan, which they wouldn't invoice for til end of Feb, so we'd have ยฃ1340 by then, and it would likely be around ยฃ900 for a tank.ย
If it's mid Jan, the earliest we'd get another delivery is mid March (likely later), so no invoice til end of April, by which point we'd have ยฃ780, plus May's stash if necessary, and plenty of time to build up before a winter delivery.
Actually, our contract fix runs out in April, so deliveries after then will likely be more expensive ๐ Sadly I can't time them, we just let them know when the gauge is below 30% and they slot us in when they're in the area.
Anyway, blah blah. Best get back to work ๐4 -
๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ I got an interview ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ
Exciting, but also rather terrifying ๐ฑ๐ฑ Fortunately it's not for several weeks so I have plenty of time to prepare/ wind myself up about it ๐๐
Met Mr Cheery in the pub round the corner from work as we're off to a gig tonight. Having a chat about the interview, went to the bar because my food hadn't turned up - turned round to realise my new head of department is sat behind us ๐ฑ At least I think it's them - only met them once, not confident enough to interrupt their dinner, but confident enough to STOP talking about another job ๐ฑ๐
Hey ho ๐๐13
