Well done with your carpet solution Cheery! You are so resourceful - it reminded me of how you learned to plaster and practically re-plastered your old house. Go you!! XOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.

Ha, thanks PP! 😁
Sun is shining here, and we have had a cafe breakfast and a small squabble in B&Q - typical Saturday morning 😂
Had a nice if slightly odd day yesterday - ended up driving back and forth to the city twice, but had a lovely walk with my friend, and Mr Cheery got an emergency dentist appointment and antibiotics for an access 🙄 Over four hours of driving for me, but things achieved in the end.
Dismantled the final bookcase in the study - over the mantlepiece- and yes, I'd painted ROUND it. 1st coat on yesterday, I'll do second now, then when that's dry, a third over the whole wall. Other two walls need a final third coat today. I don't usually freshen up paintwork after a few years, but given that some bits hadn't been painted at all, it made it very noticeable which were the faded and scuffed older bits! 😂
Anyway, all looking bright and fresh in there now, and I'll be pleased when this is done today, and then we can start getting proper helves screwed to the wall, which should free up some floor space.
Some success on the Happy wheel the last couple of days - I've gone from being about £40 down this month to being £87 up 😁 Of course, it can turn in an instant, but this feels like a much better situation for now!
Just been inspecting my electricity spreadsheet (well, paper spreadsheet 😂)
79.5kwh used so far in October, which is £32.97 including standing charges.
Averages out at 5.7kwh a day, which, again including standing charges is £2.36 or £2.43 a day depending which calculation I use - apparently I've miscalculated somewhere along the line but not going back now!11 -
Urgh, rather a grumpy unsatisfying afternoon here, which I'm hoping to wash away in a nice bath. We heard of another death of an elderly relative of a friend (that's two this month) - this time from covid in a care home 😕
Anyway, some things have been achieved:
* final plasterboard panel on the kitchen ceiling SEALED! Woo hoo!
* all remaining boards given final coat of paint, except the one I just sealed, which has had one coat, and will have the second tomorrow (aside from that, only remaining ceiling jobs are to clean plaster from the edges, and get a bit of beading to cover a gap, which we could have got in B&Q if we'd remembered 🙄)
* all remaining painting done in the study except a tiny bit of a gap I filled with sealant - that's had a first coat and just needs a second tomorrow. Then need to put the sofa back
* Mr Cheery has concocted a plan for some shelves in a corner - hopefully that will be executed soon.
That's it, doesn't feel like much 🙄 But certainly better than nothing!
Mr Cheery is visiting his dad tomorrow, and I will have a much needed day to myself. Plan is to
* finish mini painting in the study, and get Mr C to help me move the sofa before he leaves
* re-fix bookshelves onto mantlepiece, and get books back on them
* finish kitchen ceiling (hooray!)
* blog post
* YNAB/banks ahead of payday on Tuesday
* bit of batch cooking (might even put the oven on for pasta bakes and/or roast spuds etc)
* general tidying round ready for the week ahead
* maybe a bit of scything
* pay the garage bill! Completely forgot!
* band rehearsal at 4
That's probably quite enough, as usual 🙄😂9 -
Oh, and happy wheel today was up £39.09, so I'm sitting at a very reasonable £126 for October 😊9

That does look like quite a daunting to do list Cheery - but the stand out thing on there must be the kitchen ceiling surely, imagine how it’s going to feel to cross THAT off a list for the final time! 😁

All of that from thinking you might have some old rugs in the attic you could put down to make the room a bit warmer
. Still, it may have been a lot of work but it sounds like it is much more insulated now
