Have you ever posted a photo of your store cupboard?  I'm trying to picture it. Is it super organised or more of a place where you discover things you forgot you had? Mainly I  am struggling to work out whether 30kg of puy/black speckled lentils would take up as much space or just weighs about the same as a 10 year old child 🤔

I came across some bean friendly recipes you might like. The Swedish not-meatballs call for borlotti beans which I don't see on your list but there's a recipe that uses cannellini beans to make a cream for vodka pasta. I've had vodka pasta made with oatly and it was good (I did not make it :joy:

I'm looking forward to seeing what meals emerge from the store cupboard over the next year

  • @Friday1989 - no pictures but my 'storecupboard ' is just my normal kitchen cupboards (although I have a sack of buckwheat and a sack of dark speckled lentils along with lots of lock and lock boxes of red lentils under the stairs 😉) but yes, it's very organised!

One cupboard holds dried and tinned pulses, one holds grains/pasta; one for herbs/spices/stock; one for tins and jars; one for flours and baking and another for all open or shelf stable condiments/pickles/chutneys and preserves. 😊

other than the understairs stuff, all the pulses and grains are in labelled lock and lock boxes, tins, jars and bottles are stacked in regimented lines as are the flours - I can't cope with disorganisation! I'm a minimalist in everything other than my mammoth food stores so I have to have everything tidy 😂

Thank you for the link - I'll definitely check it out! 😊

I need to get back into meal planning, I might've gone a little crazy with all the new veganuary offers and products, so have a very full freezer!

I desperately need to organise my cupboards. I used to have a tiny kitchen but with a walk in larder which was great for storage.  I now have a big kitchen but no wall cupboards so storage is very haphazard.

New year pledge to sort my cupboards to make finding things easier by end of January!
  • Today's food was sprouts and cabbage from the garden, potatoes from the cupboard and a green pepper from the fridge cooked with a bit of stock, chilli flakes and black pepper then a tin of kidney beans added for about 5 mins at the end - very tasty! 😊

@leftatthetrafficlights that's my kind of meal.  I'd eat like that quite happily.

It's more complicated having to cook for my OH but he's doing 5:2 at the moment so I can do those kind of meals on his fast days.
  • Mine too @CCW007! 😍

Today is going to be a bit of a mish mash! 😂 got out what I thought were cannellini beans- turns out they're mushy peas!! 🙈😂

Not to be thwarted, I've cooked the remaining cabbage bits (savoy and red - tiny amounts of both) in stock and onions, I've peeled and chopped a sweet potato, 3 small normal potatoes and a few small parsnips from the garden which I'll make into mash (possibly with a bit of horseradish 😉) and made a cauliflower, artichoke, chickpea and tarragon stew with the small amount of cauliflower I had left - it may be random but it should all go well together!

We'll only have stew and mushy peas left tomorrow so I may add some tomatoes and spices to the remaining  stew and some Asian bbq sauce to the peas and make an enchilada pie 🤔 I'll suss something! 😂

    Lol at the mushy peas!

I'm planning on making vegetable tagine with chickpeas (open tin needs using up) in the slow cooker for dinner with some LO red and white quinoa - need to see what vegetables I can chuck in there.  I think dinner tomorrow will be sesame tofu with stir fry veg.

I do love your ability to turn leftovers into something different, very inspiring.
  • @Raincoat - rostis sound lovely! Haven't made them for years - definitely need to now! 😉 I love them topped with white beans cooked with sage and a dollop of onion marmalade 😍 They'll be on my meal plan for this week now! 😂
I meant to say - this is inspiring, a lovely combination that I might try in the near future. Mine turned out surprisingly well and we had them with a spicy potato and mushroom wellington.

Oh dear to the mushy peas. I am sadly not a fan, even the smell puts me off. Good luck on finding a combo that works!

@CCW007, the tagine sounds perfect for these chilly nights. I had a load of carrots to use up so made a spicy carrot and lentil soup with a big dollop of vegan yogurt.

@CCW007 - tagine is lovely! Haven't made it for a while so may do one this week 🤔 I never have leftovers chickpeas- love hommous too much! 😂

@Raincoat - glad your rostis turned out well 😊

We've had new potatoes with dinner last night and I made too many so added a maple and mustard dressing to them while they were hot - planning on having them cold tonight with burgers and salad although dh is suggesting kebabs so if he insists I'll just add them to my pitta breads 😉

Shopping tomorrow so will decide on the menu based on what cheap veg is available- definitely need to do stuffed buckwheat pancakes though as they were lush! 😍
