My 2 year battle to try to keep our home

My son had a hospital appointment this morning so £3 on parking, saved on our traditional Costa whilst waiting for the eye drops to work by going for booster whilst I was there. They were lovely so I managed to convince my daughter to come back with me for hers (she had a bad reaction to her HPV so has been too scared). Passed M&S in the hospital on the way out so spent £7.25 on reduced goodies -oops! However the car park wasn’t working so avoided the second £3 parking charge.
Then got home to a letter from an insurance company who have been utterly slow and unpleasant regarding my dad’s death with a £175 cheque by way of apology. I like that style of apology! It is me that has dealt with everything after my dad dying but my brother and I are joint next of kin. We would share any proceeds from his accounts but I don’t know if the £175 goes in with that or not as it isn’t a payout but an apology for the way I have been dealt with. He hasn’t done any of the calls, paperwork or arrangements.

Hello there TBD 🙂 I'd say - if the money is an apology for the way you've been treated and you're the one who put all the work in, the money's yours.

You need to talk to your brother. What ever he says will avoid problems later on.
£87.50 is welcome but small within the big picture. Your feelings nonetheless sound justified.
Enjoy your hols.2 -
I've been reading through your diary, have subscribed and am sending my good wishes on your MSE journey. You've had an awful time what with your selfish ex and appalling solicitor - I do hope things improve for you and your family and 2022 turns out to be a better and positive year for you. So much admiration for the way you are dealing with everything.
If you told me and I was your brother, I would say, 'you have it sis, you earned it'.If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Oops - yes, maybe give your brother the chance to do the right thing 🤭 I think I'm looking at the situation through the lens of my own recent experiences with my brother-in-law - he'd have claimed all the money for himself without lifting a finger 😲 You know the personalities and relationships involved - let that be your guide.

Rang my mum just as we set off on our road trip and told her about the £175.
my brother then text and said the money is mine and he didn’t know why I would think otherwise 🥰
Have just paid the £175 off my credit card so delighted that moves my debt free date down by a month.Feeling super positive

Good news! And well done to your brother for doing the right thing. He sounds like a good'un.

The friends we are staying with have had a look at my car and he is swapping my front and rear tyres over so I get more life out of them but he has discovered I need new brake pads and disks urgently so spending £101.50 I hadn’t expected to today. Very grateful to get them sorted now rather than at the point I am shelling out for new tyres but slightly regretting using the £175 off my credit card now!
