Thank you so much. I am starting to realise how much of a control freak I am!
I feel like I am working so hard on the finances but I can’t see any benefit to it all until the solicitors are sorted and the marital finances finalised. I just hate that all of that is out of my control at the moment and that my life and that of the kids is still being controlled by the fudge stick ex.
However, once that is done I feel like everything will slot into place and I should be in a fairly positive position (relatively! I am not sure having to take on a full mortgage at 42 is particularly positive but hey ho!)
Total Debt May 21 £20,490.44 DEBT FREE DATE 29/7/22

2024 SAVINGS FOCUS - get rid of the car finance. £12,706.25 PAID OFF
2025 Savings Focus - 33.3/33.3/33.3 split; savings for house renovations (bathrooms/garden/kitchen; whichever collapses first), save for a family holiday (probably our last one!) and paydown/offset the mortgage. Total pot = £3275.885 -
Try not to look at the big picture. One step at a time and you'll get there. XXX
I Believe.....
That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.
happiness isn't achieved by getting extra things,
but by getting rid of the things that make you unhappy5 -
But doable. I bought my first house at not far off 40.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
When you are through the starting gate without the tethers of your ex holding you back, you will fly. In the meantime you could start looking at one or two Mortgage-free Wanabee diaries on here to see how people are making small extra streams of income to overpay their mortgages - looking at how you have shifted since you started on here I would say ten years is not unreasonable for you to be mortgage (and debt) free. 👍👍Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

I feel a bit tentative about posting as I have become a bit wary of good news until it actually happens!
I am still waiting for the ex to sign and return his D81 but I think it is in the pipeline (but you never know with him). However, he is now officially my ex as we have the decree absolute.
Next week should hopefully be full of awesome news and I can’t wait to be able to update.
