Have a great weekend, starnac, that's a proper long one as well, with the bank holiday too2023: the year I get to buy a car2

Hi KC. Hope you are feeling better. Yes a lovely bank holiday weekend. We are using it to visit the in laws. We don't see them as often as I would like but that's between DH and his dad to organise not me. Just because I see my family every week doesn't mean everyone is like that.
Anyway, I am slowly making my way through the list. The locksmith came out yesterday and fixed the lock on the conservatory door. He gave me a family discount (he's my cousin) which I tried to refuse but he wouldn't have it, so I sent him home with eggs for his mum as well.
Just a quick one for me as DD is off to get her GCSE results (only year 10 ones so not full ones) She wants to be there for 10 which is the earliest year 10 are allowed.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2003 -
Oh don't get me started on the family/inlaws thing - I've spent years feeling guilty that MrEH rarely sees/speaks with his folks a lot of the time, and it's only fairly recently that I've been able to let go of that a lot. His take on it is that he will always be there when it counts - which is true, but he doesn't see that some parts of his family (siblings) don't think that is the case. It's a tough one.
Good luck for DD - fingers crossed here! Both the partners in the firm I work for have that going on with kids today as well!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks for the good wishes, starnac. And good luck for DD! Sounds like she's taking a couple early? I suppose it sort of eases them into it. Best of luck, anyway.2023: the year I get to buy a car3

Ooh, good luck for DD today starnac! All fingers and toes crossed for a good day 😊😊
We're a mixed bunch when it comes to family. I speak to my sister very regularly, mum reasonably regularly, and my dad I only see once a year 🙄 I often feel guilty for not seeing my mum more especially - although not so guilty that I actually do anything about it... Mr Cheery barely interacted with family much for years, but since his dad got ill, he talks to him most days, and visits several times a month, so I now end up seeing his family far more than mine! Very early on though I made it quite clear I wouldn't be responsible for birthdays on his side - he never bothered, and still doesn't, and while I do sometimes feel guilty, especially about the kids, it's not enough to take that on as a responsibility myself... 🙈1 -
Families are a strange one aren't they? When we lived in Manchester, my mum would visit at least once a month (4hour drive). DH's family lived 10 minutes away and we probably saw them about the same amount. Since we moved to South Wales 15 years ago, the in-laws have travelled to us twice! Once for my 30th birthday/DS's christening (same weekend) and once for my mum's 60th birthday. We have invited them so many times. Scratch that, I have invited them. I am starting to let it go. If that's how they are happy then I need to butt out.
This morning I need to corral the kids into getting all their stuff ready. I have asked and asked but they know better *rolls eyes* Yesterday was a write off for both of them. DD went with her friends to get her results and they all came back. I asked (politely) how long they were planning on staying (two of them know me pretty well not to take offence) and one of them answered "til you kick us out"Turns out two of them were going home to empty houses as their parents were in work all day. They had literally been dropped off at the school just before 10 and told "see you at 5pm". That makes me uncomfortable so they stayed here all day watching Good Omens.
That meant DD did absolutely no packing and DS stayed in his room because "this house is full of girls"oh the pre teen attitude is on it's way
DD did really well in her exams. Better than she expected as three of them were science and she hates science. She got an A and two B's for the sciences, a B each for English and Welsh Lit and and A* for drama. She was pretty stressed over them so the fact that she did better than she expected is brilliant.
I need to shake a leg myself. Wake DD, get DS to put his stuff into the bag, I've stripped my bed and put it in the wash. I need to remake the bed as my mum is staying to look after the dog and the chickens. I also need to empty my car and get diesel.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2005 -

he is a drama queen mind you. It wouldn't be fair for her to take over his home for the weekend so it was easier for my mum to stay at mine.
