Zcrat & madmich666 welldone!
SarahNeedle nevermind yesterday eh & well done for today!
Today I looked at the magazines that I would have purchased...total £4.00
I was seriously underestimating how much I was spending on magazines as I have already bought loads before I started this thread & they were mostly glossies
I was thinking I was spending £20 PM but I have already saved over £11...

Does this count as a successful day or not? I took in a packed lunch and made coffee to take in to work with me so spent nothing in the staff mess :T
However, our lodger, who we have to provide 3 meals a day for as part of the deal, was going out to a concert before I had time to cook dinner, so I had to give her £5 to get something when she is out.
So, what I have saved at work myself, I have still paid out for food that I really should have been able to cook myself had I been home from work in time.
Still on the right track though! Hope it continues over the weekend, although tomorrow I am in my bar job and it is difficult to resist the nibbles

Can I join? :-D
I'm a student, and a lazy cook. Every time I can't be bothered to cook proper food, I just buy a frozen pizza or one of those tinned meal things - costing £1-£3 a pop, whereas if I just bought a bunch of ingredients I could make myself do every meal much more healthily, tastily, and most importantly, for generally under a pound. I'm actually quite a good cook, but my housemates normally leave the kitchen in such a state that I can't be bothered to rummage under the mound of dirty dishes looking for a saucepan or a wok that's not completely caked in three-week-old food and might be washed up and ready for use in under ten minutes.
And so, from now until February 1st, 2008, I solemnly swear, I will buy NO frozen pizza, NO instant meals, NO expensive pies and other contrivances to avoid having to do real cooking. At the end of this period, the money I haven't spent on these evils will be put into my ISA... where it should have been in the first place.
Starting tomorrow night, the Proper Dinner Challenge is on!

Well the annoying thing is that I had prepared a shepherd's pie for dinner tonight (so WAS prepared like a good OS/DFW girl) but because she has gone out, there was not enough time to cook it before she left!
She doesn't cook for herself, I cook for her. I have to be a good host mum while she is with us

BritshNinja, consider yourself added!
Its fairly simple to cook up curries/bolonnaises/chillis etc without using lots of pots & also can freeze portions for next time.
Quick instant meals are stuff on toast, ommlette, pasta pesto.
Good luck!

Thanks Lisa!
Right, I'm going to compile a list of a week's worth of awesome meals I can make with as few ingredients as possible so I can hit Sainsbury's first thing tomorrow morning and stock up in preparation
