I loved the Little Women books too but my all time favourite was the Chalet School series. They were hard to come by and the library didn't have many either. My friend who died in 2022 was the only child of fairly well off parents so she had more Chalet School books and she did let me read them. I have my friend's Mallory Towers and St.Clares books downstairs in my bookcase now (we both sold our Chalet School books when we realised that some of them were valuable).3

I used to love the Chalet School books, Nancy Drew, Ballet Shoes and anything remotely horse related when I was a child. I’ve always been an avid reader. I think my love of books started when I was around 2 and has never waned. Always had my nose in a book.
That’s a very thoughtful present indeed from the HT 🙂I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3 -
A few years ago I bought all the Anne books for my kindle & would you believe for only £1.36. There was actually one I had never read too. Would you believe only 39p now.

I'm a fan and have all the Chalet, Anne and other LMM - then DFB etc.
Chalet are on the whole inexpensive now , there's a thriving community on Facebook as well as a couple of actual clubs.
Those who like pony books look up Jane Badger. I should reread the Jill books2 -
Ooh - book reminiscences! Loved (and still have) What Katy Did and the sequels. Same with Little women and the sequels to that as well. As for Ballet Shoes - many years ago I found it's sister book White Boots in a charity shop and nabbed it as it was such a childhood favourite....just last year I found a far more modern copy of Ballet Shoes (I had no idea it had even been reprinted!) so that also got purchased (50p I think) and so the pair are now reinstated together on my book shelf! Other things I still have - some of the Pullein-Thompson Sister's Pony Books - Peb, do those ring any bells? (The Jill books - yes, definitely read those too!) My AA Milnes, Alice in wonderland (in a twin edition with TTLG as well) Peter Pan....
What a lovely thought of the HT to buy you books though - see, you have brung him up right!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Good afternoon,
I wish that I'd known all you Chalet School fans about 48 years ago. @peb I am so jealous of your collection. I've been pondering if I should start a collection of my own again. When I lived in London the first place that I headed to every time I went to Foyles was the children's section to see if there were any more reprints of the ones that I was missing.
I've tidied my baking cupboard today. I've only baked when I've really needed to this past couple of weeks mostly becauseI didn't have much spare time but also because the kitchen was too cold to go into unless I had to. All items now rearranged tidily and in use up order. I also decluttered the mug cupboard which is where a few other bits are kept.
I'm going to do my declutter totals weekly I think. I can''t keep track of monthly NSDs never mind monthly anything else. Today was
1 - 6 various low calorie hot chocolate sachets OOD in 2016
7 box of Stevia powder sachets OOD 2019 (I would have used these but there was an ingredient I didn't recognise)
8 a plastic click box of sweeteners. I don't use them and it's been almost 10 years since I moved here and lost touch with the neighbour that did...
9 ancient tub of sweetener that I think dates back from slimming world days OOD 2019
There were some instant costa latte sachets that the HT said were too sweet but they're in date so I've kept those and moved them to the baking cupboard. They'll be ok as a base for coffee ice cream I think. There's enough room in the cupboard for all the mugs and glasses now 😊
I've been shuffling my grocery underspends over to my Ebeneezer account and it's up to £63.14 now.
Take care all of you 😊6 -
Glad somebody else buys stuff like this and then leaves them in the store cupboard for years. Tho 2016 beats me hands down.xx:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.002

Well done on the decluttering! I've got a huge tub of sweetener I bought years ago and have never used. I must chuck it! I'll never use it.
Well done on the Ebeneezer account as well!"If you can dream it, you can do it". Walt Disney1 -
Today I have made some apple and cinnamon baked oats, found the lid to a tub that I have been looking for all week and decluttered (numbers 10 and 11) two very small tins of coconut cream that went OOD in 2018. I know that in theory anything in a tin should be OK but if I haven't made a recipe with it in yet and its 6 years out of date then it could be a while longer before I find a use for it. I probably bought it to make something for best friend then found something that was more suitable.
Today has been an NSD. I may try and do a better count of NSDs next month. Don't hold your breath though......😄
Take care all of you 😊7 -
Sorry to skip back to childhood reading but The Little House on the Prairie series enthralled me when I was a child and I loved the tv series on a Sunday morning too with Laura and Mary, Carrie and Pa and Ma.
good work on the de-cluttering.
