Has anyone ever applied to change their house number from 13 to 12A etc?

I live in a street of 18 bungalows. I'm number 13 which doesn't bother me one little bit. Several of the houses also have names. I have always lived in houses with numbers and/or names. In fact my last house was only known by its name. Would it be a bit naff to assign a name to my house? What does the OP think?0

@scottiescott, I like house names and might call mine 'Dunleakin' as suggested earlier.
It was raining heavily last night and at 1 am some of the lounge ceiling came in with a torrent of water and the sofa and carpet are sodden, electricity went off. Fortune was smiling on me though today. I emailed my surveyor and he arrived at my door this morning, and has magicked up two lovely strong men who are putting a tarpaulin up right now! Everyone here needs help, I am so lucky.
I had just let my Dad's comments get to me, I'm not superstitious. He's going to love this roof saga though.£216 saved 24 October 20140 -

Good point! Feeling so much happier, thanks, I was having to get up at 3/4 am to empty the buckets, I'm looking forward to a full night's sleep.£216 saved 24 October 20143

After having a great result to a problem that had been affecting me for years on a Friday 13th, it's now a day I personally consider to be VERY lucky!

A not-very-house-related post here but a bunch of us were flying across America from Boston to California in 1990, an all-day flight including a changeover we thought was a time-wasting ordeal. We hadn't noticed it was a Friday 13th and the airlines were facing lots of last-minute cancellations.
We were told our multi-step journeys were cancelled and we were offered alternatives including a one-flight transcontinental flight with no stopover. Result!
We were delighted but we wonder how superstitious the general public is.
BTW, I totally agree that a large portion of luck is a learnable skill. Richard Wiseman's the person to look up.
Excelsior!

It wouldn't seem fair to me, to 'borrow' next door's number and add a letter. It would make both of your homes sound like they were one plot that's been divided and would probably cause some issues with the post.
Personally, I'd leave it, but you could give it a name instead.1 -
I was puzzled to see lots of houses called "Cartmel" in Wales.
A quick Google provided the answer, its Welsh for "home".
So how about finding a name that means "home" in a language (or dialect) that means something to you?
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
