Thanks for all your comments, really appreciate it, it was just my Dad's comments made me think about it. He also thinks green cars are bad luck, no idea why.
I think I'll do a bit more investigating, thanks for the reminder about airline seat rows coffeehound, I did a cabin crew course in my youth, I'd forgotten about that.

The insurance will pay for the roof but not the dry rot.1 -

I'd happily live at number 13, but I'd have second thoughts about living in a property that used to be 13 and was now 12A.I've lived in a XXA house before, and at least a couple of times a month there'd be somebody who couldn't find it/ confused my house with the one next door / told me my house didn't exist. Usually it was just annoying, and was sorted out with a quick phone call to/from a delivery driver, or a with visit next door to pick up my parcel. The time when gas meters got confused was more irritating, but again it did get sorted.I probably wouldn't mind renting such a house, but if I was buying I'd not want to sign myself up for that hassle again.2

Sapindus said:Once you get it in your head that you are suffering from bad luck, every minor misfortune will reinforce that belief. Consider for a while all the GOOD things which have happened since you moved there, and the things which might have gone wrong with the houses you didn't buy. Good luck very often goes unnoticed as it may simply consist of turning a corner just after a bus cuts it and would have killed you.You need to flip that script, youth leader!Imagine how many people have bought houses that needed more work than realised - most of us?! Even eradicating every street in the country of a number 13 won't stop that phenomenon.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I was once told the number 13 was unlucky as this was the number of times the hangman wraps the rope of a noose.Don’t know if it’s true.Personally I don’t think that is what caused the dry rot and the roof to fly off. Im sure a street or two over a tree will have fallen on number 29 (or whatever).Sorry you’ve had rubbish luck. And hope it picks up soon. Xx

If you really want to change the number from 13 - it's usually going to be to 11a, rather than 12a.
Most streets have odd numbers on one side, and even numbers on the other - but there are exceptions.

Not worth it because of some nonsense belief about numbers.0 -
I’ve been living in my current house for 2 months now and I’ve only just realised our street doesn’t have a number 13! As ridiculous as it is I suspect it devalues the property and therefore developers would rather skip the number.
I’ve lived in a house numbered 1A previously and to be entirely honest it was a hassle. It was common for our neighbours at 1 or even at 14 to get our deliveries and there were some address lookups online where our address didn’t exist. Given the choice I wouldn’t live at one again.

Speaking as an athiest I have no problems with number 13.
I was brought up to think it was an unlucky number as there were 13 at the Last Supper.
Mind you I am the sort of person who will walk under ladders, and open brollies indoors.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0
