Has anyone ever applied to change their house number from 13 to 12A etc?

I bought my bungalow in March, No 13,and my 89 year old Dad said it was an unlucky number and I should change it. I know the Chinese view 4 as unlucky because the word sounds like 'death', but I've never been superstitious.
But now I've found dry rot, severe condensation, and other small problems, culminating with the extension roof flying off in Storm Arwen on Friday night, I'm wondering if my Dad is right?

Yes, change the house number quickly. This is a well-known cure for dry rot.53

I should have said it was a resin flat roof - vendor told me it was only a few years old, I felt happy I didn't have to do anything about it for a few years.£216 saved 24 October 20141

I lived very happily at a number 13 once.
Maybe I got out before the demons and ghouls got to me...
I'm sure I remember a poll on here once about whether you'd live at number 13. Or maybe I dreamt it!
Personally I'd just keep it. Surely it's still number 13 whatever you do. Would prob just mean that annoyingly most of your deliveries and post will end up at number 12.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*7 -

Thirteen is considered lucky in Italy. It is also considered lucky in China, because it sounds like the word for "sure life". 13 is also considered a lucky number in Judaism.
It's almost as if it doesn't really matter whether someone labels a number as lucky or unlucky. Different places/cultures do different things.5 -

The insurance will pay for the roof but not the dry rot.

I'd rather live in a 13 than any number with an a after it.11

This is even embodied in some serious situations such as airline seat rows and floors in tall buildings - pretty bizarre really.1

Once you get it in your head that you are suffering from bad luck, every minor misfortune will reinforce that belief. Consider for a while all the GOOD things which have happened since you moved there, and the things which might have gone wrong with the houses you didn't buy. Good luck very often goes unnoticed as it may simply consist of turning a corner just after a bus cuts it and would have killed you.11
