Day 71 is drawing to a close. It feels like its been a very long day.
Tiny went back to school yesterday, but the rest of us are still showing positive results, so freedom remains elusive. I'm feeling a lot better, although I have no sense of taste or smell, which is upsetting, as my bestie sent me a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers that I KNOW smells divine...grrr...
Although being housebound means I have not spent anything on unnecessary items, it does mean that our food cupboards have been severely depleted, so the next few days will require some planning with limited ingredients until the food shop is delivered on Friday evening.
I've written to my local Council requesting clarification on why my commercial waste bin collection has increased in price by nearly 100% (without any notification that I can remember) and I have requested a large repayment of the credit balance bulb have on my electricity account. I've also submitted my self-assessment accounts so that the MASSIVE loss I made during the Covid lockdowns is officially recorded. No tax due...but would I like to pay voluntary Class 2 National Insurance for the year....
No lottery win to report either...

Dear Diary...today has been a better day. I think this is Day 74 and it is the first day since my family starting coming down with Covid that I have felt nearly back to normal. I'm still coughing, but testing negative, so will be able to go back to work tomorrow night and earn a bit more cash!
Hubby received official paperwork with a new job offer, which he has decided to accept. Needs to have the difficult conversation with his current boss this week, which I know hes not looking forward to, so I helped him compose an email that outlines the main reasons behind his decision. Not sure of his start date yet, as he might have to work his full notice, but the new financial year looks promising.
Grocery shopping arrived yesterday and although it was slightly over my weekly budget, it has been 9 days since I last bought food, so I'm ok with that. Meals planned for the next 7 days and I cooked a massive batch of chilli con carne and rice, which we ate for dinner and I have portioned the remainder into five ready meals for the freezer. My taste buds are just starting to work again, so I'm hoping I haven't made it too hot for when I'm back to normal
Added some more pennies to my 365 day penny challenge and I claimed some loose coins found in DH's car (I only took the coppers and small silver that aren't any good for parking), so have a few more to cross off tomorrow. Also popped some money into my bank account via the Post Office, which is in the village rather than driving into town. I didn't know you could do that, so some pennies saved on fuel, although I did put some petrol in the car and send a recorded delivery letter while I was there, to kill more birds...
Fine glass of Rioja (left over from Christmas) and my feet up now..

The day after Storm Dudley and the night before Eunice marks Day 79...I'm logging this as we are on high flood alert, Amber weather warning and this time last year the river burst it's banks and flooded all around us (our barriers held fast and pumps kept the ground water at bay). Found one of our little black pygmy goats dead in the hay barn this morning and most of our 300 chickens have been blown around the paddock and out of their previously covered enclosures, so this weather is very unwelcome.
Reporting also, that Bulb have credited me back £500 that they have taken from me by DD over the past year and have finally agreed that our electricity usage is not as high as they have been predicting. In 5 months I've got our monthly payment down from £450 to £170 (for this coming March) and this is over winter! Better in my bank account than theirs! However, the rain and mud here has meant the WM has been on 5 times today, so I suspect I'll be handing it all back before long...
Doggy daycare customers all collected, schools will be closed tomorrow due to weather predicted, so tonight I'm locking us down and hiding under the duvet.

Today is Day 95 of my purgatory.
Long story short, Storm Franklin struck, house flooded with 2 feet of river water and repair costs estimated at £100K+
I give up. I will literally be drowning in debt or river water for the rest of my life.0 -
I hope you can claim on your insurance, but sorry these things have happened. It is very tiring just trying to sort things out. Keep going and keep writing on here for moral supportMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Oh my goodness, how awful. I do hope the insurance will sort everything out and will also put in some extra defence against future flooding, whatever that may be.Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I had been lurking and following your diary for a while so just wanted to express my sympathy for what has happened to you during storm franklin. I'm so sorry! I live in a small town that has had catastrophic floods in the past and we are only just getting new defences now. I really hope the situation in your area improves and you get your beautiful sounding house sorted soon! Take careDebt free November 20222
