Hiya Kaz! Lovely of you to pop by...apologies for my absence on the Flylady thread - I'm reading and keeping up with the news, just not flying much myself, just skulking in the background...however, I can report the wetroom and laundry room were blitzed today as the rain pelted down and none of my outside jobs got done.

The feral barn cat and her kittens have moved into the garage, presumably as it is warmer, so I've hoiked out a nice bed that our indoor moggies aren't using and tomorrow,  I'll try to clear a path to where they are sleeping to present them with a snuggly nest.  I suspect she will hiss at me, but the kittens need some protection against the elements, so I hope they accept and use the bed.

Was a NSD for me today - I cooked baked potatoes with chilli for lunch and have a little left over, so I'll freeze that to use as a flask meal for Small when he wants a hot meal at school. That will save £2.30!

Got a statement from the vets which shows a small outstanding amount, so once the tenant's rent goes into my account, I'll clear that. Hopefully with our reduction in animals, this type of cost will diminish also...fingers crossed.

    Day 5 ...

As I got nothing done outside yesterday, my Saturday to do list has become my Sunday to do list. However, I'm not really in the mood to do much, so we shall see.

    Sunday to do list
Cut back rambling rose - maybe take some hardwood cuttings?
Move resin tubs inside to avoid frost
    Order skip
Empty and move large galvanised trough into kitchen garden
    Unload chicken pellets
Ring and organise sheep to market.

Hubby and Small are out at football this morning, so just me and Tiny at home but the dogs are driving me crazy, so I might fling them outside while I have a cuppa. I'm then attempting some sorting in the study and resisting the email offers that keep pinging into my account.  I will have self control!

    Urgh...its Monday...

So, I'm on Day 6 of my new regime and so far I've done sweet FA this morning.  It was bitterly cold when we left for Breakfast Club and it's taken me all morning to warm up. Yes, I could have lit the fire, but that requires getting more logs in and I CBA.

Yesterday I did completely clear and clean the study, which has been bugging me for weeks, but the knock on from that it more stuff to sort/chuck/sell.  I need to get myself sorted with a daily timetable to schedule where I need to be and doing what each day.  My diary that I ordered a few days ago has arrived and looks perfect for this, so 2022 might be will be more organised.  I do get quite lonely at home on my own, so I might have to co-opt a friend to come over and help for a little bit of cash in hand/home grown veg.

My anxiety is high again today and I'm finding it really hard to knuckle down and actually DO stuff, which is really annoying.  I'd love to be a calm, organised person rather than a daydreaming worrier.

I have sorted out my huge pile of magazines and recycled  those I no longer want, but that seems like a drop in the ocean when I look around and see the chaos!  I did find some of my veg seeds, so I'll be looking out what I had left over from this year, which I think I took down to the caravan, and carry on with planning the kitchen garden.  I found a roll of galvanised mesh under the caravan at the weekend, so I'm thinking I can do more vertical growing up arches and sturdy trellis this year if I can make some frames.  I'd love to add some scented flowers and climbers too...jasmine and mock orange  if and when the budget allows.

Oh look! Nearly school pick up time....joy.
  • It sounds like you got loads done. I really need to do a lot of sorting and throwing as I’m such a hoarder. I was going to do some on Sunday, but instead I stared at a jigsaw and watched Netflix…sigh, there’s always next weekend!

Somehow it is Day 9 and I haven't updated my diary for three days!

I have also managed to forget to send my best friend her birthday card, although I did wish her Happy Birthday on the correct day, so not a total failure.

I've done two trial shifts at Maccy Ds in advance of starting my night shifts this weekend (I hope). It is seriously the noisiest, most frenetic place I have ever worked and I have struggled with not being able to hear people above all the machines, alarms, and constant background noise.  It has exhausted me, but I'm being reassured that the night shift is much quieter so I'll hang in there for that.  I'll be looking at getting my hearing aids after I get paid and definitely after Crimble.

£20 of diesel put into the van, but it's only given me 100 miles, so there won't be any nipping to the shops and that's fine for my budget.  I'm still doing well with cooking meals from scratch, using freezer supplies - we had chicken enchiladas tonight, which were bloomin' yummy, if I say so myself!

We are on flood alert (it's that most wonderful time of the year...) and both rivers close to us have broken their banks and flooded fields.  The next village has a stretch of road now under water and the school bus stupidly tried to drive through and got stuck.  The field in front of our house is starting to flood, but the new sluice gate put in a few weeks ago is diverting the bulk of the water around us and away from our little cluster of houses, which is positive.  HOWEVER...pumps and flood barriers are at the ready, should they be needed.

Have a set of nails to do tomorrow morning, then a monster ironing session planned.  I'm hoping Storm Barra has finished, or at least is over the worst, so the run-off from the hills will start to lessen

A lovely surprise in the form of a bottle of gin from one of my doggy customers yesterday, as an early Christmas pressie, is about to be enjoyed.

  • Just wanted to say how impressed I am with what you're doing - so much to handle, with floods on top of everything! I really hope writing this diary helps. It looks like you're doing an amazing job. And  I hope you enjoyed the gin from your customer - a gift of gin is always a good thing!

Just having a few quiet minutes before my night shift tonight.  I have had a mid afternoon snooze to try and help with getting tired in the early hours, but not having worked overnight before, I'm not sure how I'll be feeling come 5am...  the rivers are still high, but no substantial rain, so I'm hoping that things are settling down for a while.

DH and the boys are in Sussex visiting the family, but I have reminded hubby that we booked a festive steam train event for tomorrow afternoon, so they need to be back home by lunch time.  DH's cousin booked it for us all to go, but I'm assuming he would like us to pay for our tickets, so I've got to find £90 somehow. Christmas events are so expensive! A friend has just returned from a few days in London where they did the Winter Wonderland experience and with hotel accommodation and food, they spent over £500! Crazy!

So Day 11 will melt into Day 12, then I have another shift Sunday night so it will roll over into Day 13... I have a feeling I'm going to be tired.
  • Some events seem to be being cancelled, will the train ride still go ahead? £90 is extortionate 😖
good luck with the night shifts.

So Day 13 is drawing to a close and I'm already exhausted, with an 8 hour night shift ahead of me, a stint at breakfast club from 7.30am., then a 6 hour Zoom online course from 9am tomorrow, collect the boys from school for 3pm and out again with Tiny to gymnastics at 6pm...

    Big girl pants on.

Santa train experience yesterday was mediocre and dreary, weather wise.   Santa himself was average with the expected stick-on beard, but the exceedingly annoying jester-elf incarnation more than made up for that.  So much so, we tried to lock him out of our compartment as he was being very loud and silly   :D  DH's cousin said it was his Christmas treat for the kids and wouldn't take any money, which I was secretly pleased about, as I've squeezed everything bone dry already this month.

Actually, the greyhound's owners have pre-paid for the whole of the spring term from Jan to April 2022, so there's a little bit in the coffers, but I need to be mindful that that's it from them until May.

Christmas online food order placed for delivery Wednesday evening...whatever fresh stuff is short dated will get frozen to prolong it's life and thus ensuring no last minute trip to the shops during Christmas week.  I'd rather poke my eyes out with cocktail sticks, frankly.

There's a Christmas football tournament on Thursday evening, which hubby has been organising, and as part of the team of tea ladies, I am now charged with baking enough sweet treats to feed approx. 150 kids, plus parents over the next three days...

Earl grey tea and a sit down is in order before the next long-haul.
