I was going to say for the likes of this confusing message and for some other inaccurate info that has come up.
Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 1GB per slot*

    * Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory

    Maximum Memory Capacity: 512MB
    Currently Installed Memory: 256MB
    Available Memory Slots: 0
    Number of Banks: 1
    Dual Channel Support: No
    CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
    CPU Family: Intel(R)Celeron(R)CPU 2.80GHz Model 2, Stepping 9
    CPU Speed: 2793 MHz

But to be fair, they have added the Disclaimer: * Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory

Which in Piggin's case is 512MB per slot.

Plus, Crucial indicates that there is only one slot.

Fingers crossed then as I ordered 2 x 1g from 7dayshop when they were on offer and it didn't work so I just ordered again through Crucial after doing a scan.

I see. :) Crucial aren't the cheapest, but at least they are more likely to work than your random choice.

What did you order from Crucial? What is the make and model of your 'puter?

    Tired... it's 4am here. :)

Acer TravelMate 2410. I had checked on Crucial before I ordered from 7dayshop and thought I was getting the same thing. I only opened one of the 1g and I couldn't get it to work so I can send the other back but I've only ordered one from Crucial to be on the safe side.

You may be tired but I'm betting you don't have any snow :)

Snow!? :snow_laug Oh ok...I was just having a bad dream. :)

That was a refreshing snooze. All twelve hours of it. :D

Is it possible that you ordered PC memory instead of laptop memory?

ATA 1GB DDR2 PC2-4200 533MHz Laptop Notebook Memory RAM SODIMM is what you need. Thirteen pounds is the cost.

I'm assuming it was laptop memory and not pc memory as I got the techie guru Browntoa to check what I ordered :rotfl:

Anyway, the 1gb from Crucial arrived yesterday and I have popped it in with the original 256 and the laptop is flying along. I found Crucial easy to use and because of that I would recommend it.

Go to this page on the Packard Bell site. The other option is to unscrew the panel on the back of the laptop and have a look, read whats on the memory in there already, see if you have a spare slot.

I was going to order from 7dayshop as its so much cheaper than Crucial. I'm not so sure now you've said yours didnt work. I was thinking of getting this 2gb stick:
    http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_11&products_id=103275

Its got exactly the same spec as the Crucial stuff (number of pins) etc, so I can't see why it wouldn't work but as I say you're experience has worried me!

    Hi,
I am just about to order some 'memory' from crucial but, before I do I wonder if anyone can answer a couple of questions for me?

I have 256mb currently installed and the options Crucial have given me are...

Another 256mb, equalling 512mb...£12.91 inc vat

    A 512mb = 768mb...£21.14

    Or 2 x 512mb= 1gb..£42.28

If I chose the 1gb options I would need to take out existing mb to free a slot. So what will I lose on PC by doing this :o

    I have a Sony Viao PCV-RX301

I have looked to see if I would be capable of changing these myself and, I found that to get to the slots I have to wade pass/through some wide pliable ribbon type components, is this normal?

I was only able to take one side of the tower, is this right?

    Thanks for any advice.
