Hmmm. This is an OLED for £799 (6 year warrantee etc) https://www.richersounds.com/lg-oled48a16la.html . Although whether the £150 extra is worth it I dont know. The only OLEDs they had in the shop were £1200+ so I didnt really look at them.

Ive just look at Quidco and I can get a 2.2% cashback with Richer Sounds.
That's the bottom of the range model, still good but if I was getting an LG OLED then the C1 is the model to go for, which has been down to around £800 in the past. The OLED48A16LA was £599 at John Lewis only a couple of days ago which would've been a bargain

Personally I wouldn't jump in just yet and keep an eye on prices in the run up and over Xmas as there's bound to be good deals on. Keep checking HUKD as well.

Ive just been doing another measure-up to make sure 50" isnt going to be too big. I think it should be fine.

Its just occurred to me that Ill no longer need the separate Freesat box thats sat next to the tv! Yay!

I have a Sony SA-CT80 soundbar. I cant find the spec online about it (presumably because its so old). Will I be able to use it with the new TV do you think?

I just bought it!!! (the LG 50NANO866PA).

I know I could have waited to see if it came down cheaper, or keep an eye out for good deal on HUKD, but I know that would just lead me to procrastinate further and probably end up just making-do with my existing TV.  :#

At least it means I have time to get it all setup ready for christmas. Also the free headphones/mic will come in very useful for all my zoom meetings, plus I saved £13 on cashback site.

I just hope that my measurements are correct and it fits in my alcove!!! My current TV is 32", so the new one is a whopper!

    Thanks all for your input.

I bought via TopCashBack (2.2% off) on the Richer Sounds website.

As I say, I know I could have got it cheaper elsewhere if I waited longer, but the 6 year warranty gives me peace of mind. And RS were very helpful when I went to my local store.

  • I got a Tesco own brand TV for £260.  It's 4k and the picture is good.  The sound is poor but I run it through an amp and speakers, so if you have a sound bar it will recify the issue to some extent.  The cheaper smart TVs are painfully slow, so I bought an Amazon Firestick 4k max and it is so quick it's almost instantaneous.  You just need an extra power socket for the firestick and off you go.  In  my experience a cheaper TV with speakers/soundbar and streaming stick is often better than an expensive TV if you aren't worried about a high-end picture.  I watch loads of TV and have never ever wished for a better picture.  My Dad bought a £600 Sony and my firestick is still faster than his in-built smart apps, and cost me half as much.

I'm not saying this is the best option above a more expensive TV, but on a budget it's worth considering

Surely that's the main point of buying a TV, ie, to get the best possible picture for the amount you're spending, everything else is secondary and can usually be overcome with the right additions, ie, soundbar, smart devices etc. A TV is a visual medium so why would you want to compromise on the picture above other things.

As neilmcl says, nothing other than the picture quality should be considered. This is where the difference is between  a £200 TV and a £2000 one..
