Can I reject my used van as the salesman lied to me

You test drove it, so you knew the reg. Armed with that info, you could have checked the ULEZ status for yourself in about 30 seconds online.
Your info about the Manchester CAZ zone is incorrect. The £10 fee will not apply to vans until 1/6/23, which is 19 months away, which means that the potential value lost is marginal. It's not 'worthless' after that date, it can be sold and used without charge in 95% of the UK, just as non-compliant vehicles in the ULEZ already are.No free lunch, and no free laptop1 -

Ya thanks for correcting me about the Caz date, but it will still affect me having to pay, plus a greater loss of valve.0 -

On the 04/09/21 I sent the salesman a email, asking how much the road tax was and if the van was ULEZ compliant, he replied with the cost of tax and stated the van was ULEZ compliant.
So on the 11/09/21 I went and collected the van, traded my old van in, paid road fund tax and drove off.
The reason I asked about ULEZ is the I live in greater Manchester and early next year if vans are not ULEZ compliant then it’s £10 per day fee.
I checked the other day on their web site, as signs have started to go up, and jogged my memory, and found out my van is non compliant,(euro 5) yes maybe I should have checked before I parted with any dosh. But just took the salesman word for it. I still have the email
Question do you think it will be a case of going to court? As my van now is worthless in greater Manchester
https://www.themotorombudsman.org/knowledge-base/what-is-the-consumer-rights-act
The consumer rights act, as the Ombudsman says, specifies that when you buy a vehicle it has to be 'of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described'. Yours wasn't as described so you could have returned it.
If you know the registration number of a vehicle you can check the tax cost yourself, online:
https://www.parkers.co.uk/car-tax/
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables
Before embarking upon the trouble and expense of starting a court case, why not try talking to the salesman about your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 - and returning the van for a refund?

If you're wanting to be pithy you may have more success if you read threads properly first.Jenni x4 -

Being based just outside the London ULEZ area, I'd doubt that the impact of future restrictions is that much in the fore and affecting value at this stage - certainly no-one I know really started to take note down here until this summer (with the restrictions now in force as of October).
How long would the OP have expected to keep a £6k van?
Given that van prices are very robust right now across the whole country, what can the OP sell this van for? Given that having the use of the van for a couple of months had some value, if the OP can sell for £6k less the value of 2 months' use, this could be the simplest exit strategy. Start with WBAC/Van and then try the likes of Motorway, Arnold Clark, local dealers.1 -
Could the dealer exchange for a similar van which is compliant?

Garage about 40 miles/1hr drive away from where I live, so can’t just nip in to see them for a chat about it. But need to know my consumer rights before I approach them, and write things down as my memory is like a October cabbage0
