Speeding on the dual

Hi all,
Here to get some ideas on my potential fate with a speeding penalty.
Here to get some ideas on my potential fate with a speeding penalty.
Already have 6 points for mobile phone (unfairly issued), but that’s a different matter. Those points, due to expire July 2022, but lie dormant for another year, so officially off my licence 2023.
Today I was driving home, desperately needing the toilet (no excuse but being honest). I was driving in the region of 75mph. Never had a speeding fine, ticket, or points for it.
So my Q is - what am I likely to receive for such sanction?

How do you know you were caught? Doubt you were at 75 in a 701

In a 30 or a 70?0

Because a mobile speed van was there, pointing directly in my direction. So was definitely caught doing more than 70mph; clocked my speedo and it was 75!Reginald74 said:How do you know you were caught? Doubt you were at 75 in a 700 -
On a dual carriageway, which is 70mphMX5huggy said:In a 30 or a 70?0 -
What was the speed limit on the section of road. Dual carriageway could be anything from 30 upwards. Also if national speed limit was active, your vehicle type will make a difference to your situation.
assume you are in a car, doing 75 in a 70 limited section, then most likely nothing.
I would guess 78 and above would trigger any further action.1 -
Pretty certain it was 70 on the section of road I was driving on. Yes driving in a car.Slider said:What was the speed limit on the section of road. Dual carriageway could be anything from 30 upwards. You're likely to have been doing at most real 72/3 at 75 on your speedo. You should be OK but go before you leave next time!1

It’s usually 10% + 2 mph0

If you looked down at your speedo after you saw the van you had already probably dropped a few MPH. However, assuming it was NSL and you were really only doing a few MPH over the 70 then at worst it should be 3 points and a fine or a course if you haven’t done one in the last 3 years.RoseGold2021 said:

Realistically though assuming the car is in your name, not leased etc, you just have to wait out the 14 days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Appreciate you said 'usually' but you need to be careful with that method. If you are clocked at 79mph on a 70mph dual carriageway in North Yorkshire the police will take action so really your margin of 'error' is 10%+1mph.Alanp said:It’s usually 10% + 2 mphSorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.0
