The one I received offered no explanation at all, just a statement of alleged fact.So far, this has made me more negative about Amazon, but we'll see what happens.
I have just remembered that I have two credit cards registered with Amazon, one Mastercard and one Visa as a backup.
They may be sending a different email to those who have a Visa credit card registered.
However, I think they should have given an explanation on all of the emails, and also personally addressed them all. Dear customer would not fill me with any confidence.

Perhaps Jeff was simply turned down for a Visa card and getting his own back:)2 -

I personally CBA to apply for a MasterCard so I can buy the occasional thing from them, but I'm not an Amazon lover. I find looking for things on it painful, there's alot of scrolling to find product info, too much spamming/product placements of other things I'm not interested in that's along with all the sponsored stuff. I know I'm going off subject but I was looking for lightbulbs on Amazon the other week and I was just scrolling through cables of some kind .... Bleh

They could also be targeting their customers to pick up their business with their own cards.
Taking down their Visa CC as their payment option then given them an option for their own card could be a big deal to them.
I was told that the transaction would cost them 40p in fees if I paid by debit card, but more than £18 if I paid by credit card, a charge which they can't pass on to the customer. So I paid by debit card.
The difference in charges for the work the transaction causes the bank seems wholly disproportionate. Large businesses can negotiate lower charges, but the ones borne by small businesses must cripple some of them.1 -
