Good luck with the new job and like jwil said give yourself time to settle into the new routine.
DS still needs me to check/remind that he has done his homework, and then put it in his bag and he is more than old enough. He has improved over the years but some children just need a bit more help with organisation.
With May it may be that the school suspect dyslexia but cant say as they probably have no funding to have her tested. This was the case with my DS. As soon as I had the piece of paper and the diagnosis they were more than helpful in helping him at primary school. Nessy used to have an online test that could be done to see if there were any traits of dyslexia.Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Thanks @jwil I appreciate that. I keep telling myself that the first month will be hard then it will only be a few weeks until Christmas and I can reset then if needed. And @joedenise I’m hoping you’re right. I have no idea having not been employed for so long I have no clue! Still haven’t done my budgets will do them shortly. OH is working all day. He came back with some farm carrots and courgettes he got given so I need to figure out what to do with them as OH doesn’t actually eat them but I found a recipe for courgette and potato soup and I got lots of potatoes cheap the other day, so I might do that. Going to make a sausage roast type thing. Right budget time.1

Have you tried roasting carrots @missymoo81? Perhaps OH will eat them like that as they taste completely different to boiled/steamed. I like them raw or roasted but don't like them boiled. If he'd eat them like that then it is worth par boiling, spraying with oil, open freezing and then bagging them up once frozen so that you can just chuck some in next time you have the oven on for a roast. I always do that when I buy a bag of carrots as no way can I use the whole lot in one go.
Carrot and lentil soup is another good way of using up carrots which of course can be frozen and make good use of them. Soup and pudding night can then become a regular part of the menu plan which works out far cheaper than cooking a meal with meat!
Not sure if the children have packed lunches but if they do how about courgette and carrot muffins? Recipe here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/carrot_and_courgette_63594. Your OH might even eat carrots and courgettes then!

Hi @missymoo81 glad to hear that things are finally starting to get back on track for you. You sound like you will have a lot on your plate so if you can do some meal prep in the next two weeks for when you start your new jobs, it may help take some of the stress away? Things like spag bol, chilli, curries etc. would all save time when you are in a rush after work, or make some dump bags for the slow cooker - I love these and they are great on the days when I'm working.
I also noted what you said about Roo and struggling to learn, you can ask for a SENCO to assess her within school, but there is also a specialist eye test that can be done, which may indicate if there is anything up. You can't get it done at a high street style optometrist, usually more of a specialist one. A friends daughter had the test and results, and that convinced the school to re-check. She has now been fully diagnosed and can access all the additional help and support that comes with it. All children are different and learn in different ways so it could also be that.
All the best for the new job

Just jumping in to say be very wary of any private assessment for a dyslexia diagnosis. I have been retired from teaching for 10 years and even up to retirement all parents who paid for these assessments came back with a positive diagnosis of dyslexia. However in about 8 out of 10 cases the child was not dyslexic and there were other issues.
It is probably even more difficult to get an accurate assessment now through the Education system due to lack of funds but your daughters SENCO should have some further avenues to explore. Her class teacher should have a good idea if it is dyslexia but I know a proper diagnosis is required before additional resources are funded. Good luck, but I would certainly start with the SENCO, they have a font of knowledge of where to go and what to do.2 -
Thank you so much @fionaandphil and @amanda_p I will speak to May’s teacher and see what he says and go from there, I really do appreciate your advice. I just know she’s going to struggle so much with high school come September, as Roo is already struggling and he is super bright.Sat doing my budget. I’m short by about £150, but that doesn’t include money from small business, so I’m hoping I’ll make £150 by then. I’m going to try and cut spends and food budget as much as I can. This is all just until I get paid from new job.Argh just realised it’s Roos birthday which I need to throw in the mix in the middle of next month. Hmmm…
oh just realised I have some chairs to put on FB market place which should help,2 -
ok have redone budget and I have about £110 ‘spare’ due to an invoice I forgot about which should be paid in a week ish. My other large invoice isn’t going to be paid any time soon I’ve been told. So that £110 is going to have to pay for half term activities and for my dentist appt. Me and OH have concert tickets his weekend so need to find an air b&b I've allocated £50 but with food it will prob be more than this. I spent £45 on shopping instead of £40 a bit cross with myself as some of that was on yoghurt and blueberries which I didn’t need but wanted. So next week will have to be £35. Have done ok with the scratch cooking so far. I have pasta bake in the oven right now. I’ve finally managed to sort the kitchen and have put the chairs on FB marketplace so we’ll see if they sell. Anything will be greatly appreciated, spoke to new job and they said I will be paid on the 30th Nov so that’s a relief. V much looking forward to having dinner in my ‘new’ kitchen. We didn’t change the units or worktop of anything but we did change door handles, paint, get new chairs and stools, get a new tap and tile and do the sockets. Tap and stools were actually a need as opposed to a want, as was the tiling, but kitchen looks totally different and I’ve moved things around so looks bigger. Very happy. Need to buy lunch on Thursday as working lunch and need to get hair dye. I have a £70 budget for all spends between now and Nov 30th so it will be tough to stick to. But I’m off coffee, so no coffee shops for me! Which is usually my downfall! Hope you’re all ok x
