I  survived half term, but surviving my job is something else! Working full time and juggling childcare and sick children and husbands being away. It has been a bit of a shock to the system!

It's definitely a shock to the system, but eventually you'll get into a routine with it.  Hope the job is going well.

Good to hear from you and you survived half term!  It is hard when you first return to full time work but as @jwil says you'll get into a routine with it and it will all fall into place.

When I returned to work full time I hadn't worked for 14 years apart for a period of about 6 months doing a part time job from 9.30-1pm while the children were at school.

You'll get there.  Hope everything is going well apart from the problems with childcare etc.

Hey, well finding a groove a little with the job. May has been ill now too so having to work from home more which has been nice but bless poor May.

tried to get into a routine of meal prepping and eating better as a family, after reading about ultraprocessed food, so spent £100 on groceries. Need to find a happy medium with this! @Bluegreen143 is always a good inspiration for proper cooked meals, think I need to raid her meal plans!

I can’t spend that much each week but also don’t want to spend ages cooking. I did make a quick curry last night which went down well.

I finally started my Xmas shopping yesterday but panic bought and spent a fortune.

Car has had lots of expensive issues as has the other car, so expensive times, trying to work out whether to buy a better car and if so which. As one is 25mpg!

Washing machine broke again, is 6 years old and something to do with the motor. So managed to get a reconditioned drum one but have had to wait a week for it. I have sooooo much washing to do tomorrow when it arrives!

Should get paid from proper job next week, but will be on emergency tax. So won’t know exactly how much i will get. Really need to sit down and and sort budgets and how much we need to live, then how much for pension, savings etc. was going to try and keep little second business but I wonder as I don’t  make much whether it will just be pointless because of the tax on second job etc. Need to look into it.

so that’s just a mini update Will get back into posting v soon.

    Good to hear from you.

    Hope May gets well soon.

It's a nightmare when the washing machine breaks isn't it. You have my sympathy with that washing mountain!

Good to hear from you again @missymoo81.  Glad that you're setting into the job and they let you WFH when May was ill.

It will be like coming back from a holiday with a week's worth of washing to do.  Make sure you sort it so the the most urgent stuff gets done first so that nobody runs out of anything.  Nothing worse than having no knickers!

  • Have a look at "taming twins" blog or on Instagram - she does some amazing recipes and has different cookbooks out which have really given our meals a good shake up.  Lots of amazing slowcooker ideas which would fit in well with a full time job.

Hey! Hope you’re all ok. So update we are getting rid of one car and buying another, OH is using money from sale of car for courses for future job/career. He’s giving me some and I’m getting a loan for the extra amount needed for the new car. We’re keeping the small car as good on miles and has a years mot on it now. Loan will be for 28 months which is a month before our mortgage is up, so we can then get better mortgage amounts.

I will have to spend every penny from my bank accounts for a deposit on the car, but keeping my emergency fund in my pbs.

I don’t actually get paid until thursday so has been a bit tight trying to get shopping for this week. Spent £18, bought cooking bacon, frozen peas, frozen broccoli, biscuits x 2, oats, tonic water as got bought some gin and can’t afford wine!  Also bought, cheese, milk, bread and toilet roll.

So meal plan for this week:
    carbonara
    fajita Pasta
    chicken & chorizo risotto
    Chicken noodle curry
    sausage and mash

Trying to be better at making things from scratch. We had slow cooker stew the past 2 days which was lovely. Am still struggling to take things into work and eat there, and just end up at the canteen, even if I’ve made lovely salads and things. But I noticed today there is a toaster and I can easily take in some bread and peanut butter! And I might make a veggie curry and rice for lunches… or chilli. I need something hearty.

Going to make carbonara in a minute and some banana bread.

Did I mention DH has D&V… there’s always something, May last week and Roo the week before.

In happy news though, my washing machine is here and works wonderfully! I still have a huuuuge pile of washing but I’m working from home tomorrow so will get two loads done then.

V much looking forward to Thursday and my first official employed pay packet for years.
I'm going to put it all in my Monzo pots. And try and build up an OP mortgage pot and an instant access £1000 for emergencies.
