I think a financial advisor is a good idea in your situation at the moment.

I wouldn't worry about over paying the mortgage until your finances are in amore settled state. That can come later on.

Make sure you speak to an Independent Financial Adviser and not one attached to a particular company as they will be able to look at the whole of market rather than just their own products.

A pension is far more important than overpaying the mortgage at the moment.

If you can sort childcare then the council job will give you that bit of pension security later in life when you'll need it.  The state pension is never enough to live on comfortably.

Regarding clothes - Vanish oxi action colour/white for stains. Half a scoop in a wash while help deal with smells. I have a very active job and a uniform I don't get replaced as often as I like. I got sick of the sweat smell and oxi sorted it out. Can wash at 20 or 30 no bother. Also go easy on fabric softner, too much locks the sweat smell in instead of covering it. I use have the recommended amount and works fine for me 👍

Hi. My OHs cycling clothes used to smell when we used cheap non bio liquid. We now use fairy non bio liquid and dry them either outside or with the dehumidifier on. I don't think you are supposed to use fabric conditioner on sports clothes. Also we only fill the machine 1/2 or 3/4 full.
Before you go to the financial advisor can I suggest you go through the budget planner on this website. Also have you seen the financial textbook martin wrote. You can download it from this site. I am not able to post links as I'm new.

Thank you all so much for your advice! I really appreciate it. I do need to figure out what is best pension or mortgage pay off.

Thank you for the info on the stinky clothes! I think I’m going to have to do a separate wash for gym stuff. I do use cheap non bio and overload the machine 🤦🏻‍♀️.

@kelpie67 I will have a look at the budget planner! I didn’t realise it was a thing! I didn’t know about the financial text book either. I shall have a look.

    I hope you’re all ok.

Do you need to use non bio washing powder?  Bio will work a lot better at low temperatures than non bio will.

I wash everything at 30 degrees. I have always believed that sports clothes shouldn't be washed with biological detergent however I can't find any evidence to support that view. The manufacturers do say that biological detergent shouldn't be used on wool and silk. Quite a few of our sports clothes are merino. We do wash sports clothes separately.

Thanks I will buy some bio. OH and May have sensitive skin but I will try it and see what happens. Have just had to escape upstairs with my tea as May was practicing her out of tune guitar at me! I’ve got to pick the shopping up later, which meant I had to make dinner out of not a lot yesterday. But I managed, fish finger sandwiches for the children. Not the healthiest but May had cubs and they don’t like sweet potato or cabbage which is what me and OH we’re having, and it needed to be quick. OH and I had dinner later and I used up the sweet potatoes and I defrosted some chicken and used some old cabbage and it was actually really nice. Shopping should come to under £65 this week, so a little better. Blooming cat food though! It’s gone up £2.50 since I last bought it!!!!! It’s so expensive! I even looked around other supermarkets etc first! The cats aren’t fussy and will eat the cheapest wet food but still super expensive!! Will have a small spend today as me and Roo need to wait for May to do football, so it’s a coffee shop to do homework. But I have a Costa reward and I’ll buy some donuts for £1 at Tesco rather than  £7 cakes.

Meeting childminder tonight. Hope it all goes ok! We have swimming tonight too, can’t really be bothered but the children love it.

Anyway, must get dressed! Have a good day.

Gym kit I periodically soak in bicarb overnight and then bung bicarb in the wash with the detergent, and out vinegar in the rinse. It gets rid of the lingering sweaty smell and the mustiness that synthetic fabrics can suffer from. You could do occasional washes with bio and an extra rinse or second quick wash afterwards with non-bio if people react.

Thank you for the advice on cleaning the clothes! I’m going to give them all a whirl. Have the towels that are always a bit stinky hanging on the line after washing them without fabric conditioner.

Just had a little sleep on the sofa and feel so much better, especially as I know I’m not going to stop running around until 8.30pm! 6 hours to go!

    Pasta bake for dinner.
