Oh my goodness I’m tired today!!!! We let the cats sleep on our bed, and I woke up no less than 7 times, they sleep between my legs and I just can’t get comfy or turn over without a huge movement, then the small one kept jumping on the big one and biting him. So I am not going to workout this morning, I’m going back to bed after the school run, I have no reason to be up right now. But I need up putting the cats downstairs at 6, and it’s pointless going back to bed so I’m sat in the lounge drinking tea. the small ones will be up in half an hour. So I’m trying to enjoy the peace. Before I need to make packed lunches, breakfast help children read, get dressed, no doubt defrost the car, and go.

I’ve got work from 2-6, I could get someone else to do it but it will cost me, so I’m going to have to soldier through.

Me and OH have 5 days without the children next week, (I have them from fri-wed of the first half of half term and ex has them for the rest). Now our minds straight away went to go on holiday somewhere….. wouldn’t that be lovely, apart from the fact we have no money and it’s half term so will be extortionate!!! Sooo we are going to try and take those days off of work, and actually start getting the house sorted. I’ve said this before and we haven’t got round to it. We have a lot of the paint to freshen up the place. I think the house is about 8-9 years old. But absolutely needs repainting inside. I do need to get some paint for the front door and surrounds, some sugar soap, quite a lot of tiles and a screen for the bathroom. I’m hoping this can all come in under £500 and OH will go halves with me. I don’t have that money spare but I have a few things that I’m going to list on Market place. Like May’s bike and all of the children’s bedroom decor from when they were younger.

Actual money is still not great from me having to pay the mortgage etc with no money. This will sort itself out it’s just because, like I said yesterday, that everything gets paid in bits throughout the month. It usually all adds up but this month it hasn’t rallied. Mostly due to a client cancelling a lot of her sessions and only just being due to pay, but she will probably pay next week.

I had to borrow money from the EF yesterday, it’s not an EF at all to be honest, it’s OHs Course money but not sure when he’ll need it, could be weeks or months, so time to pay it back. My PB win has tracked so that’s gone in my account, I’m still OD by £67 but I have a work payment coming in for £75, I was going to move these straight out to pay back the money borrowed but my bank charged me 18p for the liberty of being OD yesterday, so the sooner that’s back in the + the better.

I really do need to get my invoices sorted. I don’t know why I put them off so much, it’s almost like self sabotage!!!

Bacon stew for dinner. I am very happy with the shop yesterday, I can def make lots of meals with it. And today is head of driving half an hour to a cafe, spending £25 on food and then driving half an hour back, I’m going to make us some fishfinger sandwiches at home and if it’s nice enough we’ll sit outside, even if it’s with our coats on!

And last night I sat and sewed instead of just staring at my phone and falling asleep on the sofa. I got a tiny sewing machine out that I’d bought May and had no idea how to use, and used some old material but have made her a new (school coloured) scrunchie!!! It really didn’t take long and I actually feel like it was a bit of an achievement for me to do something in the evening! Right best start to do things as small people are stirring upstairs!

Missy, if all the household stuff you’re doing is cosmetic rather than essential, I wouldn’t do it if you are short of money and owe the emergency fund cash and are going in your overdraft.

By all means use the paint you have, but redoing your tiles etc is a luxury and if you’re borrowing from pots and short of bills money would it not be more sensible to use any selling money to get on an even keel again?

Well done on sewing May a scrunchie!

Thanks @Bluegreen143 always the voice of reason. I completely get your reasoning. Unfortunately the tiling is for the main bathroom, it’s an over bath shower and the tiles only go up a little way and the children are too old to have me hold the shower now so need tiles all
the way up, a shower screen and shower hook. We have an Ensuite with a shower but it’s now becoming a struggle to shower everyone as OH works shifts and is usually asleep when a shower is needed. It’s been needing to be done for months but I keep putting it off, with time being an issue along with money, but I really do need to bite the bullet and get it done. I’ll have a look at costing it up maybe tomorrow. I’m hoping it will be under £300 for that, but I have no idea how much tiles cost 🤷🏻‍♀️. And I appreciate your thoughts on the EF. Next month will be easier, and I do have a little bit of savings for dire emergencies but I’m absolutely trying not to touch that.

Dreading work today just have no energy. And I have to work an hour later than normal as OH can’t get there until then. ‘Sigh’ children will have pizza for dinner, I’ll have leftover enchilada and OH will have omelette.

I agree with Bluegreen on this one Missy.

Save your money for more essential items.
  • Have a look on fb marketplace as might be people selling off part boxes of tiles etc to try and bring costs down. But ideally you don't want to be doing it unless it's 100% essential.

  • Shower curtain & rail will be cheaper than a screen?

We used to have a shower curtain & rail on both long sides of the bath, that would just leave the shower head shiort side to do.  Could you do that to help cut costs?

This is what we have too.  One day when funds allow we will be redoing the bathroom but for a few pounds from cheap shop 2 curtains and 2 tension type shower poles (so no tools required for fitting) it certainly does the job really well.

We have one curtain along the wall, and the other curtain goes along bath edge but then the end bit is also threaded on the other pole so that it makes an enclosure.

Spend the time relaxing while you can with your OH rather than doing DIY

Hey, thank you for all of the above advice. I’m going to chat to OH and see what’s doable and sensible etc.

Have been super good at staying within budget and minimal spends. It’s been hard, also had to argue re a return, but it’s all good and sorted and money should be in my bank in a few days hopefully.

It’s half term now and I’m determined to stay in budget it’s only day 3 of my new month and I haven’t touched the spends budget yet. I need to get niece a birthday present but will pay for that in coins and hope to recoup some back from the cash tin at business.

I’m hoping to only spend £30 this week on food, the free book for Tesco and Lidl have come up trumps! There are some really good recipes in there!

I hope you had a good half term and a nice break together.  Hopefully the DIY went well
