Thank you for the advice. I don’t really know what to do. It is a sleeping night shift unless you get called out. It’s weekends and school holidays that will be the hardest i think. Both children will be in high school by Sep 2024. The job wouldn’t start until Feb 23. School pick ups etc will also be a problem unless they can go to their dads until I can pick them up. Hmmm more thought is needed. But I will apply and I can always turn it down. It would be a good career with a pension etc.

I suppose if you get called out it’s OK because your OH will be at home so the children aren’t left alone. But will he be able do the school run etc if you aren’t back? I know you’ve not been able to rely on the children’s dad all that much.

  • Hi Missymoo81

Is that not what after school clubs are for? Or childminders? Since you may not need it every day of the week anyway and can review after they go to high school so what 1 year and a couple of months? Worth trying at least. Once trained, could you take a year out and then go back if it is too much?

Got any friends or mum-friends locally to ask what they do?

In my family, once we hit high school, we were considered old enough to get ourselves up and out to the school bus and it was our responsibility not to sleep in. Ditto for get the bus home and a key to get in - our parents sometimes didn't get in at the same time. Honestly we saw it as undisturbed extra tv time even keeping an eye on the younger sibs who ... just went out to play really. I don't know how close your kids will be to their school once they get there or what the area is like but once they are there, can they not walk? Over a certain milage or if it is unsafe, council are required to organise safe transport.

Basically, I'd say go for it. If it is not working out, then stop and rethink but you should try not to work yourself into a state trying to sort problems you might have that you cannot do anything about yet. (Not saying you are, its just nerves about a big change can do that to people!) Consider options but really who knows what your life will be like in feb 23, thing can change suddenly.

If you change your mind, you can withdraw or quit, no harm done.

If it works out, you'll be in a stronger situation.

I truly admire what a strong adaptable person you are.

Sorry if that was a bit of blurt!

    Best wishes whatever you decide!

Definitely a good idea to apply anyway.  It's always stressful trying to sort things out initially, but once you've got systems in place it all generally runs pretty smoothly.

Definitely apply and sort things out nearer the time.  Definitely worth considering a reliable friend/another child's mum to collect and look after yours for a while.  I used to do that for a friend's child - morning and evening.  She paid me a small sum but quite honestly I was happy to do it.

So little update. I have spent the last 2 weeks writing my application with much help! So sent that off last weekend. I should fingers crossed get through this first sift. Then I’ve got all of the fitness stuff to do. I didn’t realise I would be tested on my swimming. And I really don’t do this well So I’m having to have swimming lessons. I’m also being tested on my running. Again not my forte so I’ve now focussed my attention on running.

Because I’ve been so busy I’ve lost track of money and life etc. and haven’t worked much this week or last due to clients being on holiday. So money is at an all time low. Need to do some sort of reconciliation today and see how bad the situation is 🤦🏻‍♀️. Haven’t been shopping properly for a while as have been eating out again. So need to get back into the habit and not take my foot off the pedal again.

Am currently babysitting For my friends babies whilst they go out for the first time. So I’m going to try and relax a little and come up with a plan. I hope you’re all ok. I’ve missed chatting with you all.

Hey @dawnybabes i should hear if I’ve made it past the initial application in around a week or so, if successful I will be fitness tested in about 4 weeks from now ish. Need to go for a run later and I absolutely don’t want to. Nor do I want to work tomorrow. Really struggling trying to find the enthusiasm and motivation for it all.

On other news I went to lidl and spent £35.58. Which included sun cream. I’m hoping this will last us until a week on Sunday.
i do need to pop to Tesco as Lidl didn’t have any washing up liquid, and I forgot mushrooms.
I’ve got £2.50odd in cash so will try to just use that. So dinner plan is:

-Sweet chilli salmon, potato salad and spinach.
    -bacon stew x 2
    -fajitas
    -carbonara
    -mushroom chicken tonight
    -Thai green curry & rice
    -omelette
    -beans and jackets

Still need to reconcile the bank. Bit worried about doing so though to be honest.

Ok how is everyone? I meant to say a bit thank you to all of you lovely lot who took the time to post and who offered advice on whether to apply for the job. I didn’t want you to think it had gone unnoticed. I really do value your thoughts. Still waiting on that…..

I’m currently wrapped up under the duvet on the sofa. Tv is off. Still trying to remember to keep everything switched off at the wall. I did end up phoning BG and bringing my dd down, so trying to keep it under that amount! Trying to only use the oven once a week if that. I have an electric pressure cooker thing. No idea how to use it or if it would be energy efficient. I guess I could try it later on as I was going to make a stew….

So today we’re going to a range which should be fun, I need to drop some things off at the childrens dads house for them for school. I need to go for a run. I need to do a couple more loads of washing. I’d like to over today and tomorrow, get all of the clean clothes put away, as there are mountains, and the house also needs a food clean. Hoovering and bathrooms and kitchen mostly. I’ll see how much I can get done. OH is treating us to the cinema tonight to watch TG! So very excited!

Also managed to reconcile the bank and I’m ok ish. Really need to do my tax return to save paying so much tax in July. Am going to be a little short as I think I owe the school £45 for ASC. But I think I can claw back £20 as I’ve miscalculated something. I have £2.50 more in surveys than I thought. So I need to find another £22.50. This will be a work in progress over the month. Will keep you updated. I have got a monzo account and have started to name different pots. Which is always fun. Will start to fill them when I start to get paid. It’s hard when I get paid in so many dribs and drabs.
