Ok, so I finally managed to do my tax return. I’m hoping it will half my tax bill, I’m still not quite sure where I will find another £2k, but we will see what the accountant can do first.

I’m just watching house tidying programmes to try and get me in the mood for tidying. The house is a tip and I need to tidy and clean it.

I’m at work at 2-1730. Get to pick the children up as they’ve been on holiday with their dad and I’ve missed them so much.

Yay!  Congrats on getting the tax return done!  At least that's one thing out the way!

    Thanks lovely people,

struggling at the moment. OH is v v grumpy As he doesn’t know what to do with his life. As in the long term we will prob get rid of the business next year. He needs a career with a pension, he’s super clever and is one of these that needs to do a meaningful job. But he’s 43.

He was doing courses etc for a possible career. But He has found out it’s so unlikely that he will get a job doing it and there wouldn’t be jobs around here even if he did. And we’re not moving! And it seems very Pointless spending more money on training and it would be A LOT more money. But what else can he do?! He couldn’t do police or paramedic or teach. I’m just at a bit of a loss and so is he. He feels he has no Direction. He’s taken on a lot of part time work at the moment and he’s working most days Over the next 2 weeks. Which has made him even more grumpy. Keep trying to talk to him about it and tell him I’m worried about him as he’s not been himself and he’s just taking it the wrong way! So frustrating
Arghhhh sorry for ranting. Just had enough today.
  • Would he consider something like a courier for large delivery companies whilst he’s thinking what career to do just to get an income?  Takes the pressure off abit.

Is he good with numbers? Could retrain to work as a bookkeeper or in some kind of financial field? My friend who works in fitness/owns a gym also has a second career as a mortgage advisor, though this is also self employed so not got that security and pension etc, but it seems to suit him.

If he’s good with his hands could he consider learning a skill? My OH has become so fulfilled with work since retraining as a meter engineer 5 years ago. Sounds crazy but he was a manager in care (adults with learning disabilities) before, the stress was making him very ill with anxiety, and he absolutely loves his job now, loves the work, loves his tools, loves his van. Hasn’t had an issue with anxiety since and makes a lot more money while working much shorter hours than he did as a manager.

And he didn’t need to pay for his training, he did have a reduced pay for 6 months while he was trained but it was well worth it. Meter engineers make £35-38k at the moment with a pension and good working arrangements. Though nowhere is looking to train new engineers now, but my husband says the next thing is training to fit electric car charging points and he will likely move into this in the next few years. So something like that where there would then be a big demand for his skills?

He may already have tried this but search for a careers advice survey online, like the ones they get teens to fill in.  It will ask what sort of things he likes to do and then suggest areas of work he might like to try.  They have very obscure things sometimes on them that he may not have even thought about.  Worth a try?

Thank you so much for this. I really appreciate your thoughts. I’m trying to help him figure out what he wants to do that is achievable but doesn’t take him away from home. Really cross with myself, I’ve been so tired and unorganised that I’ve not been and done a top up shop. The chicken I got out yesterday was off again, lidl meat is always off by the use by date. So I’ve gone and spent £15 in COOP on stuff that would have been cheaper at lidl.

I need to sit down and be more organised. And plan stuff and maybe up my food budget by just a little. I have work in an hour and am currently taking the children to their swimming lessons. Am so so tired. Bring on 8.45pm!

Managed to get through the day yesterday. Children are at scout camp all weekend. So I’ve spent the day packing and sorting that! I’ve tried not to spend too much on hat they needed. I’m pleased I curbed a lot of my spending I could have done today! I’ve got work until 1730 then dropping the children off at 1830. It’s a bit of a rush but we will manage. Still haven’t heard if I’ve got through first sift for my job application. If you could all please send all of your positive thoughts for me. Then maybe that will help 😁. I hope you’re all ok and enjoying the sunshine.
