If it's put on the electric then surely the money you would put on the electric could be put on the gas. 

The problem is at this time of year the OP will be spending a lot more on gas than electric - so yes, they can pay that amount over, but it still won’t cover the extra they need to pay to the gas to keep the house warm. It does seem mad that they can’t just ask the recipient where they would want it to go, but equally I guess that would massively increase the administration costs. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Think I messed up the quotes and then couldn't add text.

Anyway sounds clear enough to me,customer requests,in good time that the WHD is paid to the account of their choosing.
It's not made very clear that there's that option available though.

No mention of wether or not it can be moved or not,after payment,hazarding a guess though I'd imagine not.
Unless I've missed it there's no mention of the OP having contacted their supplier to ask them.

That’s great detective work - and if it doesn’t help the OP for this year at least they will know for the future. @rp1974 I don’t suppose there is anything in there that suggests that perhaps the supplier should have made the recipient aware that they had the option to direct it is there? Purely asking you as it sounds as though you’ve already read the thing…

Looking back at the OP’s opener here, it does sound as though the supplier told them it could ONLY go to the electricity account - that sounds to me as though they may have an argument to request the funds are reallocated on the basis that they were mislead…although I suspect it may be the sort of thing that would require a threat of an official complaint.

Didn't read much further than the part posted by Gerry1.

Unaware what the setup with WHD is wether it's automatically paid to gas,or electric,or to whatever your biggest spend is.
Like most things it could do with a bit more clarity,although tbf if you dont ask you don't get.

Could be worth complaining which may raise the spectre of "compensation" possibly.
Can understand where the OP is coming from yes,complaining because you've been given £140,but not as and how youd like it,seems a little bit unnecessary to me,though.

The default seems to be that the WHD is paid to the electricity account.  That's not unreasonable because everyone has electricity but not everyone has gas.

However, Ofgem have made it abundantly clear that the customer can choose the account into which WHD is paid.  Presumably the agent was unaware of this because they'd never had such a request and / or it wasn't on their script.

The solution would be for the OP to make a formal complaint, preferably by Royal Mail and obtaining a free Certificate of Posting.  Ask for the credit to be moved from the electricity to the gas account without delay, or for a deadlock letter to be sent.  If they don't play ball, go to the ombudsman upon receipt of the deadlock letter or after eight weeks if E.On don't send one.

Shame that the E.On reps have gone, Malc, Matt, Helen et al would have sorted this out in a flash...

Can anyone tell me, please, why the Govt and everyone else is saying that the WHD is £150 when it is actually £140? I think Martin has also said that it is £150.

It is being increased. Was £140, will be £150.

@and21ob1 Are you perhaps confusing the 'Warm Home Discount' which is credit put on your electricity bills, with the recently announced rebate/discount on Council Tax bills for some householders, which is also £150 and being talked about at the moment?
