Warm home discount or light home discount?

Does anyone know why it’s called the warm home discount? I’ve been told by Eon and it’s on google that the warm home discount is for the electricity part of your fuel. Although most homes are heated by gas not electric. So how does putting it on your electric help warm your home?

The WHD is applied to your electricity account as not everyone has gas.
  • So why isn’t it called the ‘bright home discount’ because if you can’t use it towards your heating (which the majority of homes use gas for) then it doesn’t make sense ? 🤔

The £140 you get off your electric bill you can put towards your gas bill if your property is heated by gas, or whatever method you use to heat your home.
  • If you’re dual fuel then it would come off your whole balance so technically could be used for your gas heating. As someone previously said, everyone has electric so easier to do it that way. Not sure why you would be so bothered what it comes off as long as it does.

It's an absolute scientific fact that most pensioners blow it on Baileys and Advocaat anyway.
    Not true!.
    Cat food and Steradent,surely?.
  • 😂 right… so my question was because I’m on benefits. My money has gone onto my electric and EON won’t let me transfer or use any of it towards my gas. Therefore I’m topping up my gas a lot as it’s winter and cold. My electric goes down really slowly. I think we should be given an option to use it for one or the other or both. Not made to use it for the one that doesn’t heat my home when it’s called warm home!
  • I’m also on a pre payment meter so in my case it gets stuck on one or the other. And I can’t move it around.

I am dual fuel but pre payment meaning I have to top up. So I can’t use it for both. I have to use it for the one they put it on

If you read my below comments you will understand where I’m coming from. Yes I’ve got 140£ but it’s not on my heating element of fuel. And that’s the one I need it on. I don’t need help lighting my home, I need help heating it. And it’s called warm home discount
