An update - the latest version of VMware Player supports Windows 11; I've installed a Windows 11 VM on my Linux PC.This particular PC is to Windows 11 spec, but I'll give it a try on an older one over the weekend.1

Why so cautious, I've been using Win 11 since May 2021 and rolled it out to 800 users in my business in April 2022 and it just works fine and no complaints from the users.prowla said:An update - the latest version of VMware Player supports Windows 11; I've installed a Windows 11 VM on my Linux PC.This particular PC is to Windows 11 spec, but I'll give it a try on an older one over the weekend.
The new interface and start menu is is the best so far from Windows, I'm on the insider version so I've got features that will be rolled out in the next 3-6 months to normal users and it is just so slick and easy to use. Can't imagine going back to the old and boring Win 10.
Moreover, the security features are paramount for me, can't see any sound reason not to have the most secure version of Windows OS?2 -
I haven't seen any obvious improvements in the interface and the inability to turn off grouping of taskbar icons is a serious annoyance. Windows 10 may be "old and boring", but Windows 11 doesn't seem any less boring.[Deleted User] said:

Definitely more secure is better. I'm not entirely convinced that there's that much difference in security, but it's the strongest argument for upgrading.[Deleted User] said:

Can't imagine going back to the old and boring Win 10.- Multiple virtual desktops - easy to switch between personal and work for home workers without accidentally screen sharing something you don't want to.
- Snap in windows to different panel sizes more easily
- Seamless laptop docking - Windows are preserved
- Linux WSL - run any Linux apps and also Android apps via app store.
- Powerautomate
- And one of the best - tabbed File Explorer!
Definitely more secure is better. I'm not entirely convinced that there's that much difference in security, but it's the strongest argument for upgrading.- Requiring TPM / Secure Boot enabled knocks out a large subset of malware that older hardware or those that didn't enable it were susceptible to.
- VBS / HVCI / Core Isolation / Memory Integrity to baffle malware
- Smart app control in the latest release to virtually eliminate untrusted apps from running

Unbelievable! they have actually done something that reduces effort. Instead of hovering over the icon on the taskbar and selecting the explorer window I want I can select it straight away. What happens when you have a goodly number of tabs- does the tab thin so you can't read it, or do you have to scroll them?I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

They thin down. or, you can add them to groups if required. I find 'Vertical Tabs' to be useful if a lot of tabs are open.facade said:[Deleted User] said:- And one of the best - tabbed File Explorer!

One thing really really annoys me. I like Windows Defender but now you appear to have to subscribed to 365 for that, and I do not want to. I am therefore in search of the best free AV at the moment, currently running AVG but that is also annoying me lol.
I am assuming it is due to Windows 11. I was happily using defender on my previous Windows 10 laptop that gave up on me a while back. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
correct me if I am wrong but WD is free in W11 and does not require a 365 subscription.
My W11 defender works as it always has done - free2 -
You are correct, Windows Defender is free on W11, the only thing one gets if subscribed to 365 is the 365 Defender app, which does nothing directly, only sends you "tips" and gives you notifications in the app if any of your devices have anything detected on them, but it in no way impacts the normal operations of Windows Defender.km1500 said:correct me if I am wrong but WD is free in W11 and does not require a 365 subscription.

I will have to explore it further then, it would not let me download without a sub to 365 and did not come packaged. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
