Cutting off gas is a provocation, says EU chief

The EU chief also warned European energy providers against complying with Russian demands to pay for their gas in roubles, saying that this would most likely be a breach of EU sanctions.

"To pay in roubles, if that is not foreseen in the contract, is a breach of our sanctions," she said.

She said companies without contracts specifying payment in roubles should not give into the Russian demands as it would be "high risk" for them.

Despite all the geopolitical shenanigans, gas for May delivery at TheICE has closed at 144p/therm, down 12% on the day.

Comments? Can Ofgem be trusted to do anything in a timely fashion, apart from bolting the stable door? Does it seek input from interested parties out of a genuine desire to consult, or so that it can not be blamed for anything later on?

Its blocked in different regions, AU, IE, I had to pick UK. Not even a google result came up for the url. Odd way to run a website, I know why US sites are often blocked in the EU but to hide a uk story from the world seems odd.

This is a very UK-focused forum so I'd not thought of it having many overseas visitors  .

And down again today, closing at 127.5p/therm, a fall of almost 15%.

It's almost as though speculators have found themselves at the end of the month with gas futures on their hands that they needed to get rid of - anyone holding May futures at the close of trading today will have to take physical delivery of the gas.

Edit: There were double-digit % falls for June, July, August and September, too.
