it’s going to be true that policies don’t get stuff right all the time. Whats massively clear from thr heatwave outcomes is that burning more fossil fuels to save money now, will definitely result in more dead people.

Fixed direct debit is a large contributor to consumer energy debt, but no one wants to touch it due to political implications.
It far too easy for a billpayer to set DD to an affordable level to them, and then just ignore their actual bills and usage, interest free debt (usually also not on credit file) builds up slowly, can is kicked down the road, and eventually a debt relief scheme gives them a reset,
Also anything government policy related should never had gone on bills in the first place, the electric companies have become tax collectors.0 -
Best go tell that to China, USA, Russia etc whose emissions are rising and at around 60% of the world total when ours per capita, at half to one third of those countries, are well below the world average and falling without this added cost for the race to net zero which is actually going to make sod all difference to the world. Slow and steady wins the race, trying to be first rarely benefits anyone.
Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.
Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.

Best go tell that to China
China's emissions have peaked.
, USA,
The current US administration doesn't care. The next one probably will.
Russia
Russia's emissions have been falling for years, although their recent spate of refinery fires aren't helping.
