“Geoffrey and Julie Cox claim their bills have risen from £140 a month to more than £1,000 since the air source heat pump was put in and it does not heat their home.”MattMattMattUK said:
Another BBC article that has so little detail as to be utterly useless and the small amount it does include means one can only conclude that the reporter has failed to even look at the basics or verify facts. 4,500kWh or more a month, even if the heat pump was only operating in resistive heating mode there is no way the house would be cold.The_Green_Hornet said:Couple's bill quadruples after 'faulty heat pump'
A couple who installed a heat pump in order to save money say they have been left with a faulty system and their bills have more than quadrupled.

The Chesterfield couple are among others who have had similar issues with a system fitted by Sheffield's Greener Living Ltd, which received money under a government scheme before going into administration last March.

I think you’re missing the word ‘claim’. They’re reporting the story - they can’t fact check every detail of every local story.0 -
Yeah the BBC reports rather than investigates, as much as I feel sorry for their situation, why would they spend thousands running the thing if it doesn't work? Surely you'd be better off buying two 20 quid electric heaters, at least you could heat your living room and bedroom, probably for a lot less electricity than they are paying for.MattMattMattUK said:

They should do!Doc_N said:they can’t fact check every detail of every local story. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces2 -
It is something that would take an hour or two at most to verify and I would argue that if they cannot verify it they should not publish it for something where the verification would be such little work.Doc_N said:

I have complained to the BBC about their energy articles before, they had one where there was a man claiming that his mobility scooter was costing him £200 a month to charge. I pointed out that the charger for the scooter even if run 24/7 at maximum rate could only consume about £60 of energy and that would mean the scooter would have had to be run at full power, 24 hours a day, whilst simultaneously charging. A month later they amended the article the article to remove the £200 figure but left the rest of the article which was hyperbole to stand. They said that whilst some of the figures were "potentially inaccurate" they felt that the the article was accurate overall, when pretty much the only fact that was real was that there was a man and he had a mobility scooter.

Smart meter rollout hits 25 million mark
Massive milestone hit however latest figures show a slow down in installationsThe UK’s smart meter rollout has smashed through the 25 million installation milestone but the pace of deployment is slowing, according to new figures from ElectraLink.
A total of 25.15 million smart meters have been installed since tracking began in 2012, marking a major step in the long-running programme to modernise the UK’s energy system.
However, the latest data shows momentum is lagging.

I wonder where the other 9,000,000 smart meters are hiding.The_Green_Hornet said:A total of 25.15 million smart meters have been installed since tracking began in 2012,

There arent iiirc 33 m home and SME grid connected customers to get smart meters. So guess the 22 smets2 and 11m smets1 - so 33m is gas and electric. And one is installations - the other is DCC connected. So maybe a lot in bad signal areas in one set but not the other. And maybe "unable to integrate to DCC" smets1 models out there too between the two data sets as well (we see a few posts still)0

There are many households that have two smart meters - for electricity and gas. I suspect that ElectraLink aren't interested in gas.Scot_39 said:There arent iiirc 33 m home and SME grid connected customers to get smart meters.I'm not being lazy ...

It depends on whether the heat pump was indoors or outdoors.MattMattMattUK said:
