500 metres? Half a kilometre? Not what I'd normally call "close".TroubledTarts said:
Looks like a horribly low figure to put up with a pylon that close.molerat said:Bill reductions for those within 500m of new pylons to ease planning objectionsHouseholds within 500m of new or upgraded pylons will get discounts of up to £2,500 over 10 years, equivalent to £250 a year.N. ...and after 10 years??
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
You’re probably not going to be around to worry about it because of the deleterious impact of high voltage lines in such close proximity.Sea_Shell said:molerat said:Bill reductions for those within 500m of new pylons to ease planning objectionsHouseholds within 500m of new or upgraded pylons will get discounts of up to £2,500 over 10 years, equivalent to £250 a year.

You won't have to worry about estate agent's fees... no-one will want to buy it.Scot_39 said:

Until quite recently my parents had a house that was maybe 150m from a 132kV line. After a while you barely noticed it.Gerry1 said:

We have a choice. Pylons are unsightly but relatively inexpensive whereas underground cables are unobtrusive but costly. We can't have our cake and eat it. Pylons may devalue a relatively small number of adjacent properties but not providing adequate electricity supply will devalue properties in whole regions. There are no easy answers but lots to complain about. You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs and you can't update the energy infrastructure to meet the needs of the 21st century without upsetting people, but it needs to be done so let's get on with it.1
