Please be careful. It is illegal to open mail not addressed to you. You do not need one of these people becoming angry with you!
No, it isn't - unless you intend harm to the person named on the mail.

Personally I'm happy to forward it on - it's not the biggest hassle in the world.
I disagree - it’s really annoying having someone else’s post clutter up the side and then having to make a special trip to the postbox because, as discussed, most people aren’t sending a lot of letters nowadays
Just leave it on the side and the next time you pass a letter box just put return to sender on it, and post it. Or bin it burn it or shred it.

what do you do with junk mail with your address on? Just do the same thing.

There's not a lot else you can do, and if it's not a priority for previous owners / tenants, that's their look out.

Even that caveat isn't relevant if it's been correctly delivered i.e. to the address on the letter. Only if it's been wrongly delivered (i.e. because it's for a different address).

Of course, "intending harm" might be illegal for other reasons anyway!

I’m very much leaning towards binning it now. I despise clutter in all forms and other peoples post “left on the side” is the epitome of toot I don’t want lying around…

it just baffles me that people aren’t bothered enough to fill out a simple online form 🤷🏼‍♀️

Over five years I have been in my current home and still get letters for the sellers daughter. They have family in the village so I have been giving it to them but after five years I got a bit frustrated and opened the letter - its a dividend cheque, well they wont be getting it as I binned it (its only a tiny amount). Maybe one day all those unclaimed dividends will be a nice sum for the girl (if she ever realises).

I don't disagree with redirecting and have always redirected. However no one knows other peoples circumstances and we all look at these things from our own perspectives in our present situations. Maybe they just have something more concerning to them. So I just give people the benefit of the doubt and help them out.

Why would you do that? Couldn't you just return to sender?

We moved at the start of July and even this morning I am still getting mail for the previous owners and their business.  I started by messaging them and they would stop by and collect, but after 3 months it just seems really frustrating that they still can't be @rsed to put a re-direct on or contact their suppliers.  So I am now putting them back in the post as return to sender.

Seriously, they get more post than we do!  The worry for me is that if they're not updating their address, what happens if they have debts and end up with bailiffs or worse?

I just think it's really inconsiderate not to do a redirect or at least make arrangements for the first few weeks until you've contacted all your companies.

    why don't people redirect?
    other than previously mentioned:
    - you can't redirect abroad (last time we moved anyway)
    - it'll only be fore a sert number of names, some people / companes insist in using part of the name which might g through
