So at the end of last month I felt unwell so did a lateral flow test.  I got the dreaded two stripes so followed the advice to get a PCR.  I booked myself in at my local drive through and got tested.  A day later I received the text to say everything was negative.  Then I saw last week on the news that a testing branch out of Wolverhampton University and run by Immensa Health Clinic Ltd were giving out negative results by mistake.  Myself and my partner then both received texts (she took a PCR also as a precaution as was also unwell) to say in brief sorry you may have had it but as its now over 10 days dont worry about it.  Well I do worry about it because I could have been spreading it to people unknowingly and that concerns me a great deal.  It also means the time I took off work as a result of being ill would have meant I qualified for a local grant in my area.  All in I think the government has totally swept this under the carpet in the hope that people dont care about it and forget about it.  Well I cant forget about it and it worries me a lot that I may have infected others.  Has anyone else been affected by this?

  • Not part of the Wolverhampton testing, but I also had a text to say there may have been an issue with my result from the PCR, but I can't change anything so there is little point in worrying.
If you were off sick how much mixing were you doing to potentially spread it round?
    Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

    Make £2024 in 2024...

Not much mixing to be honest as I was well aware I wasn't well so was still doing my bit to keep others safe but there's always that element of doubt now.

Unless of course this is more about the £500 support payment...
    My, how cynical 🙈🤫🤣

It's not sweeping it under the rug, it's taking the sensible view that there is nothing that can now be done about it.  The samples will have been destroyed so no one can be retested and if anyone has unwittingly spread it, well the damage is already done.

This isnt about the payment because I still got paid by my employer.  Its more about the lack of care about it.  Hopefully it will be investigated and these testers are removed from the pool.

  • Partner took a PCR after taking ill at about the time this was going on. Came back negative, which was a surprise. Subsequently all of this came out in the news. We were never contacted to say her PCR was wrong, but it's not clear that they were able to contact everyone. So it's very possible she did get a false negative. Ultimately, there is nothing that can be done about it now, and it's not your fault if people got infected - you had taken every measure to make sure you were not spreading the disease. But yes, not ideal, and really not ideal to miss out on that grant too.

No doubt a firm of solicitors will be on to the case.

Thanks for your kind words.  It is a worry when you think, however unlikely, you may have infected someone who has since had a bad time with the disease.

If you did infect anyone (which I doubt), it was not due to your wilfulness, stupidity or lack of concern for your fellow human beings. Mistakes happen, have happened and will continue to happen. You should not feel guilty about something over which you had no control.

I believe you may still be entitled to apply for the grant if it was only last month.
