I only use Word and Excel though.
But depending on what you use, older versions can be a bargain. It'll be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end....0 -

I left the HUP as well and deleted the version I was using (though they didn't seem to ask me to) and use the Mac word processor and spread sheet etc. but it can save in MS formats.
Family use the Openoffice (different version of and all that) on their PC's and seem to do all they need on it.
I don't suppose I do need Micro$oft really, is the OpenOffice one fully compatible with word docs and spreadsheets? It'll be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end....0 -
I'd just carry on using the hup version if it's only for occasional personal use.1

You might like to watch this short video which was uploaded to Youtube several days ago by computer expert Britec09. He has 629K subscribers and he knows what he is talking about. If you do go this route, make sure you apply the BR09 discount code which will get you 30% off, making a cheap price even cheaper. If you are looking for any form of assurance, it is worth reading some of the comments posted since the video was uploaded.

As they are free, give them a whirl. Best way to see if it sits OK with you. I think there are at least two well considered versions. Perhaps someone who uses them more can comment but thought it was worth a mention to avoid grey areas around keys etc.0 -
The keys that are sold on ebay etc. are OEM keys which are licensed to a piece of hardware rather than an individual.
They may work, and they might not be illegal in the context of criminal law, but using them breaches Microsoft's End User License Agreement.
I've been a happy LibreOffice user for many years. In the early days there were compatibility/formatting problems, but I haven't had one of those in a long time. I would at least try the FLOSS route before spending money on a dubious second-hand OEM license, and if it works out donate what you would have spent on that dubious license key to the open source project you are using.
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?1 -
I run W2010 professional (bought when I had W7) on both my laptops (the licence is for three machines) and a desktop W8.1.
When W10 came out there were reports that W2010 would not work but I have had no problems - will see what Windows 11 brings. I also have W2000 and that worked fine on W10 when I tried it.
Pity that Software for Students finished as I was able to buy various software from them - W2010 for example @ £400 cost just £40.00.
