    Yes, there's only one HAN.
I can't explain it either, sorry.
Just had another look at the gas meter, and it shows NO bars at all. It did yesterday as my photo shows. This is driving me crazy.

I'm hoping Octopus will be able to sort it out after I join then in a fortnight.

Did that work? I would jump ship to Octopus if so.
Have you tried using the IHD to view your meter readings? I'm with EDF and have the same IHD and this is how I view meter readings on the IHD:
    1. If the IHD is not already turned on, turn it on and wait for the Used so far today figure to show.  This can take 3-4 minutes.
    2. Press the OK button on the IHD.
    3. Press the Right Arrow button three times until Meter information [OK] is shown and press OK.
    4. Your electric meter reading will be shown first.
    5. To show the gas meter reading, press the third button from the left which shows the gas and electric icons on one button.  To clarify, this is the button shown above the green light in your earlier photo.
Although I have smart meters, I use the IHD to record meter readings in a spreadsheet for my own records.
  • It is worth adding a further comment. Smart meters have built in security which forms part of the GCHQ- level security built into the DCC Network. The first principle of security is one meter: one supplier. The second principle is bespoke supplier/consumer meter security certificates.

Security certificates are sent out by the supplier to the meters post a takeover of supply. Think of them this way: a courier knocks on your door with a parcel and you accept it but it was actually for someone in another part of your town.

In the case of smart meters, any attempt to deliver a request or pull data from a will be ignored unless the security tags attached to the message match what the meter is expecting. When a message is sent, the supplier attaches a security tag and DCC adds a further tag so the request is in a form that meter security certificate can accept. If not, the meters will not respond.

It follows that it is perfectly possible for both meters to be connected to the DCC network but only one meter  is allowing data to be pulled from it. This level of security is necessary to prevent network hacking and mass meter disconnections. A supplier with a good smart meter team should be on to this before a consumer raises a complaint.

I can get the Electric reading (your step4), but pressing the third button from the left does not do anything but emit a faint beep!

It just cant see my gas meter.

    Hi,

My EDF IHD hasn’t been working for about a month now and the EDF online “my energy hub” is also showing no data.  This is frustrating given current energy prices.  The meter has been installed for about 18 months and was working fine until the end of June.

The communications hub (?) is a Zigbee EDMI 420,  both the wan and han lights are flashing at about 2.5 seconds frequency, the HAN light is green but the WAN light is red.

The electricity meter is a landis+gyr E470 and seems to be working OK, I seem to be using 5.5kWh a day, which is about right for summer (fridge, washer, oven, TV and IT kit working from home)

EDF have been no help, each time I contact them I have to go through the IHD reset script, then I get told to wait 24 hours and then I have to start again.  Also they insist I am on an internet contact only tariff, that was the discounted tariff I joined on but I’m now paying standard variable so feel I should get standard support.

Any ideas on next steps and can I trust my bill?

Are the meters still showing readings and are you giving these to EDF monthly to keep your account up to date? If so your billed amount should be based on actual readings and be correct.

The meters are still showing, it has only been a month but I will supply a reading. It sort of defeats one of the objects of smart meters, me having to submit a reading.

The information showing on any IHD is not used for billing purposes: it is advisory information only.

Billing for energy used is always based on actual/customer readings pulled by the supplier from smart meters or provided to them by the consumer of a meter reader. Your smart meters will retain import data for 13 months (import data in the sense that 13 month’s worth of 30 minute usage data will be stored in the meter’s memory).
  • I have been having the same problem with EDF.
It is a chameleon IHD with Landis. All data transmission stopped since end May / EDF app smart hub does not show data.Have tried resetting etc etc.Been uploading manual readings.Complained as well.EDF  sent someone out who could-not fix it.Now they have said they cannot do anything as still the meter is working as a legacy meter and I can complain to the Ombudsman ! I feel so helpless especially in these high energy pricing times and direct debit has gone up by £90 in last two months !

Your meter is still recording accurately and showing readings that you can give to the supplier?

Perfect - that's all it has to do.

In an absurd way it heartens me to read all the problems people are having with EDF. Mine's gone on for months with stupid excuses which has forced me to take them to the ombudsman. My SMETS2 has never connected to the network and they come out with excuse after excuse after excuse. One excuse was that they fitted a SMETS1 see image :D  Another is a previous supplier had fitted it. I could go on and on. I'm banging my head against the wall with them and if I could change suppliers I would do.
