EDF smart meter not updating or sending

You might be slightly confused. The gas meter pairs with the comms hub which sits above the electricity meter not the electricity meter itself. The comms hub has a built in gas proxy meter which takes the usage and tariff information from the gas meter and converts the information into kWh and costs which is sent to the IHD. Similarly, for the electricity meter the comms hub takes electricity usage and tariff information. The Comms hub establishes two networks: the wide area network which connects to the DCC infrastructure, and the home area network which your IHD connects to. The most likely reasons for your problem are distance between the meter boxes or interference from metal components. The supplier can fit an external aerial to your electricity meter box door.PAB190968 said:I had a gas and electric smart meter installed by EDF a couple of years ago. The gas one worked but the elec couldn’t communicate with the gas one (which is the one that relays to EDF). After many complaints and a wait, they replaced both. The new elec still won’t communicate with the gas one so I still have to submit manual elec readings twice a year. They couldn’t give me an explanation. They gave me a token credit to my account for compensation. Not very smart eh? EDF are pathetic.0 -

Just had another look at the gas meter, and it shows NO bars at all. It did yesterday as my photo shows. This is driving me crazy.QrizB said:Yes, there's only one HAN.I can't explain it either, sorry. If it's any consolation, my experience of EDF's back-end smart metering team is equally poor. My gas meter hasn't reported readings back to my supplier (EDf, then Zog, then EDF again) since August last year.I've asked EDF CS to look into it three times (possibly four) but have heard nothing back and there's been no change.I'm hoping Octopus will be able to sort it out after I join then in a fortnight.

I had gas and electric smart meters installed from EDF last August. They work fine as I can see all the data in the app. However my gas bill received in January was based on an estimated reading. I had to phone them to get a new bill issued based on my reading, and they said they would "flag it with their meter team", which they probably should have done automatically instead of sending me an estimated bill. Absolutely useless, will certainly switch to Octopus when I can, as I'd hope they have a newer backend.

Did that work? I would jump ship to Octopus if so.QrizB said:Octopus asked me to wait until 3 or 4 weeks after my switch, then to contact them again if it still wasn't working. We're three weeks in and it's not yet working, so I'll be contacting them towards the end of next week to follow up.

My smart meters were fitted by SP in Dec 20 and worked fine until I left them in April 21 to go to Orbit. Orbit went under in Nov 21 and I ended up back with SP, electric readings smart but they couldn't pick up gas readings. Switched to Octopus in April 22, same thing, electric is fine but they still can't get my gas readings. I'm about to chase them up tooBarnsley, South Yorkshire

Suppliers pull data from smart meters using secure software known as an Adapter. Many suppliers build their own Adapter and get it certified for use on the DCC Network. Others use an Adapter service provided by a third-party. Octopus Energy uses TMA/CGI. Based on nearly three years with Octopus, getting reliable 30 minute data isn’t assured. The loss of one 30 minute block can prevent automatic billing.jamei305 said:I had gas and electric smart meters installed from EDF last August. As far as EDF is concerned, my gas smart was functioning when EDF took it over but, allegedly, it was unreadable as far as EDF was concerned. Mysteriously, it rose like a Phoenix from the Ashes when my gas supply switched to Octopus Energy.0
