As the pipes run upward, between each of the shelves, it is already occupied by valves. So, can’t place there.

At the very top, I could place it. Would give more wiggle room. But, still at the very top nearly the ceiling!

You might want to review the valves and whether they are needed/work.

Not that I want to generate more work for you, but if they aren't needed and/or have jammed, moving/replacing them to facilitate the optimum location for the MagnaClean might be worth doing.

Many airing cupboards have a forest of gate valves that have jammed and are now useless.

Here’s a photo of the bottom part of the airing cupboard.

Above, there are shelves full of clothes, ha!

Which pipe is the 'return'? And how accessible is it above the slatted shelf?
Quite awkward if it's in the corner right enough.

I've got the MagnaClean Micro 2 - only about 150mm in total, fitted within a 350mm space above the boiler. Works well, you will have plenty of space for that.
    Thanks ComicGeek.

Hadn't realised this even existed! Noticed it too has a 10-year guarantee too, like the MagnaClean 2.

Is it effectively just a smaller, less powerful (e.g. it collects or holds less magnetite) version of the MagnaClean 2?
The micro has a shorter magnet than the Professional model, hence the difference in physical size. You would select the unit based on pipework size - the micro has a 22mm connection, the professional a 28mm connection.

If you've got a 'normal' domestic boiler with 22mm flow and return pipework, then use the micro as it will be perfectly fine for what you need. If you've got a larger than normal boiler with 28mm pipework, then use the professional model. The larger model on a smaller system won't necessarily give you a better result - regular servicing is far more important.
Thanks. Though, I'm almost certain the Professional 2 uses 22mm, not 28mm?
Yes, you're right - the last one I did was the professional 2xp, which has the 28mm connections.

I would still use the micro model above your boiler.
Given that the new Professional 2 is 22mm, and features the quick-release (so can be released perpendicular to the pipe)… what would be the advantage of using the Micro model?

Not sure which is the return pipe (simply haven't turned on the CH to check yet). But, in an ideal world, I'd pop it next to the boiler if I could.

Seems this can actually be done... due to the quick-release feature on the Professional 2!  :)

You can fit it anywhere in the pipe run, preferably on the return pipe. If you have any pipes running in a cupboard or even above the ceiling where the boiler is just install it there. It only needs cleaned  once a year after the initial chemical or power flush so if it's in the loft its no big deal.

Failing that the micro is also a good option.

The quick release is the red piece between the top and bottom fittings, it's just really a push fit onto the pipes. The original Magnaclean  uses compression fittings to attach to the pipes, the 2 is push fit so it can be easily removed.

    Hi all,

    Jumpstarting this thread again!

Is there any (safe) way I can move the earth (on my flow and return pipes) down say 30mm, to buy me a little more space for the MagnaClean Pro 2?

No reason the clamp couldn't be moved to below the compression fitting (if there is space).

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Are there any requirements as to how far this earth needs to be from the boiler and/or other fittings? Can it touch them, if need be?

'spose I should have pointed out that that bit of wire & clamps is not an earth. It just provides a bit of bonding between the two pipes. Rather pointless in my opinion, but hey-ho... And no, I don't know of any "rules" to say how close the bonding needs to be.
Any space & access to the pipes below the boiler ?
I wouldn't be surprised to see all the pipes linked together at that point.

    Haha, thanks FreeBear!

As you can tell, I’m not entirely clued up on these things!

I think I read somewhere this if you don’t have RCD protection, which we don’t, it’s good to have it? That said, I could have completely misread what I read!

The flow and return pipes aren’t below the boiler, if that’s what you mean? Go straight into the loft, then along to the drop down legs for the rads.

On another note, in the airing cupboard, I weirdly couldn’t locate the return pipe… even with the CH on. Could feel the flow going into the bathroom (for the towel rail), but no hot return.

Anywho, even without the bonding between pipes, I can only just about get 300mm worth of run. The exact amount I need for the Professional 2. It’s just too tight, really.

Think I’m going to go with the Micro 2, which I’d only need a total of 250mm worth of run. We only have 6 radiators in our entire house… so it should really suffice!
