Trouble Fitting a MagnaClean 2

Sorry FreeBear, have just spotted it in the downloadable PDF instruction manual!
Oh, that's bloody brilliant. Might be able to use it after all!0 -
The micro has a shorter magnet than the Professional model, hence the difference in physical size. You would select the unit based on pipework size - the micro has a 22mm connection, the professional a 28mm connection.laurencewhymark said:
Thanks ComicGeek.ComicGeek said:I've got the MagnaClean Micro 2 - only about 150mm in total, fitted within a 350mm space above the boiler. Works well, you will have plenty of space for that.
Hadn't realised this even existed! Noticed it too has a 10-year guarantee too, like the MagnaClean 2.
Is it effectively just a smaller, less powerful (e.g. it collects or holds less magnetite) version of the MagnaClean 2?
If you've got a 'normal' domestic boiler with 22mm flow and return pipework, then use the micro as it will be perfectly fine for what you need. If you've got a larger than normal boiler with 28mm pipework, then use the professional model. The larger model on a smaller system won't necessarily give you a better result - regular servicing is far more important.1 -
Thanks. Though, I'm almost certain the Professional 2 uses 22mm, not 28mm?ComicGeek said:

You should have a read of the installation manual (page 7) ...laurencewhymark said: I can't see any mention of the quick release mechanism on Adey's website. That would be a godsend, if it does have that!
Admittedly, the current version doesn't give any information about clearances for removing just the filter - For that, you need to go hunting for earlier versions.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Yes, had spotted the quick-release feature and mentioned in this thread (a few posts back)FreeBear said:

Surely 22mm fittings are standard? Or perhaps they are 28mm with reducers fitted as required?LWM, could you post a photo of your airing cupboard piping? It would surely make far more sense to put it in there rather than between the boiler and the ceiling! You love punishing yourself? And, go for the largest model you can - it would be very very silly to compromise on this if you didn't have to.1

Here’s a photo of the bottom part of the airing cupboard.
Above, there are shelves full of clothes, ha!
As the pipes run upward, between each of the shelves, it is already occupied by valves. So, can’t place there.
At the very top, I could place it. Would give more wiggle room. But, still at the very top nearly the ceiling!

Thanks FreeBear.FreeBear said:laurencewhymark said: Thankfully, Adey actually state all the dimensions of their products on their website. But, don't seem to state the clearance required to remove the filter (to remove the magnetite). They only state the clearance required to bleed the valves.Digging around for older installation instructions, the clearance above the Magnaclean Pro is 250mm, and the Micro, 170mm.If you go for the latest version with the quick release mechanism, you can get away with 50mm top & bottom. When you need to clean the filter, slip a tray underneath, drain, and then remove the whole assembly. After cleaning out on the bench, refit and tighten up the quick release knob.I'd be tempted to get some spare seals ( O rings ?) just in case the thing leaks after removal/refitting.

There's a YouTube video of how it all works, how to remove ('quick'-release) from the pipework on the product page, and clean it. (Shown on a shiny new 'demo' installation with clean water).
Probably better above the boiler than in the airing cupboard when some dirty water gets spilt.
Tempted to fit one on my oil burner install.1 -
Yes, you're right - the last one I did was the professional 2xp, which has the 28mm connections.laurencewhymark said:

I would still use the micro model above your boiler.1
