Would be interested if Sky do release a Sky Q box which works without dish but till then, Now TV will do for me.
  • Thought Sky already had an IP only solution on the continent? More info now, looking like a grab for dominance in the living room over other providers and part of a larger push across the globe.

    Not for me though.

Well you 'rent' your Sky box, so why not the TV that replaces it!
Not with the "old" Sky+/Sky HD+ systems - still a lot of them in use.

Haven't read all the bumph - but I wouldn't touch it without the same sort of extended warranties offered on "regular" 4K TVs by the likes of Richer Sounds and John Lewis

True to a point, but if you don't pay your monthly sky fee then the box cannot receive anything other than free-to-air channels, it can't record and you can't access any recordings you made in the past. Otherwise it is perfectly usable!

Too many questions to consider before moving to Glass
Such as "what happens to the equipment if I leave Sky a month before my 2 or 4 year contract is up - or leave (penalty free) at any point because Sky have increased my bill by more than the 10% allowed"
At the moment - I am still on an HD box and am happy staying on that - since I can get TV on the bedroom TV - Via a free to use "magic eye" cable link - why would I want to pay an extra £10 per month on Glass to do this ?

Renting a TV, is it the 60s again?

It's an offer of an interest free loan over 48 months. You have the option of paying in full up front, or paying off the loan at any time. The TV belongs to you once its paid for.

...and removes the customer option of negotiating a better deal for the programme portion for 4 years !!

I wonder how useful a Sky Glass TV would be without a Sky subscription? Would you get free-to-air only? Would you be able to use it as a normal TV?

I'm quite interested but as had already been said, I'll wait for the reviews.
It'll be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end....

I had a pitch from a Sky salesman in the retail shop in Edinburgh yesterday - he said that without a Sky sub the TV would work as a Freeview receiver (if connected to an antenna) and that Smart TV apps would continue to work.
