  • TV looks at least 4 times the thickness of mine with cooling holes in the top? No OLED option either.
Might be a neat package for some though.
It's got a 6 speaker Atmos setup inside it, it was never going to be ultra thin.
Ah, missed that bit. I see now.

Id imagine like most things with sky the devil is in the detail.  In principal its a good idea and could prove a solution to many households unable to have a dish for whatever reason.

My concerns would be cost and life span.

It seems you get the tv by signing up to a 4 year minimum contract.  Do you own the tv at the end of this?  i cant see anywhere were it answers this currently.  If the answer is no then its going to prove very expensive.

What is the lifespan of the tv?  I saw the following and this would worry me:

Sky has confirmed to Pocket-lint that it will regularly update the TV hardware every two years with the ability for customers to "swap" to the latest model.

Are sky trying to use the mobile phone model for tv's?  It will no doubt cost to switch to the new model and i wonder how long they would support older models before requiring an upgrade?

Also required is the base sky subscription priced at £26 p/m.  That is on top of your tv monthly price.  So £39 p/m for the cheapest tv.  Is this also on a 4 year deal?  penalties if you can no longer afford it?  I also assume sky will have you over a barrel in any negotiating of deals as its a lot more hassle to send a tv back and buy a new one than just cancel like you can with the current system.

It seems on the surface quite an expensive option to get sky.  if you have no other way of getting it i can see the appeal but if i already had sky i dont think id be switching to this system.
I am also quite curious about ownership after 24/48 months are done but Sky TV package is apparently a 31 day rolling contract so you aren’t tied to 24/48 months contract for Sky TV.

Why on earth is it not also available as an app for all TVs rather than a proprietary own brand TV .

They already have the nowtv app

Sky rightfully wants to control the whole stack from panel to remote to ensure a best-in-class experience for every customer. It is the Apple model, and the best way to deliver a truly flagship experience.

I think Sky should be applauded for trying something genuinely innovative and new in this rather stale marketplace. The price point would also seem to be just about on point. Would I take it up? Maybe, I'll wait until the usual review sites have had a chance to test out the hardware and analysed the rest of the proffer. It will be interesting to see if Sky's competitors feel the need to react too.

I would want the right to choose my own TV brand and model so, at this stage, this is not for me.

Well you 'rent' your Sky box, so why not the TV that replaces it!
