Getting An MOT

Can you tell us what car it is you have (make and model, year) please?venomx said:
OK thanks. With these blades they come with two attachments ( that then clip onto the wiper arm ) I don't use the pins at all with mine as it uses a traditional " J-Hook " style.neilmcl said:
The two holes either side of the central pin are different sizes, so yes it does matter which way it goes round. In theory there should be a front and back side to the wiper blade.venomx said:Passenger side seems fine - 14" blade
Drivers side is a 24"
Does it matter ( for the drivers side one ) which side is left or right ?? Or can the blade below fit left or right ( on the drivers side )
Either way I cannot for the life of me take them off and switch them round, so I'll ask the mechanic when I get the MOT next week0 -
it should be easy enough to change a wiper blade. unclip the old one. clip the new one in. failing that, jump in the car, take it to halfords we fit, tell them you would like some wipers fitted to your car. job done.1

@AdrianC was right. I haven't fitted the driver side properly.
The problem is that the blades came with two attachments ( j hook and the other type ) which you then have to fit yourself to the blades... so I had to guess which way was left and which way was right.
If you buy bosch blades for example, they come with the j hook adapter fitted, meaning it can only fit one way ( the right way ) if that makes sense.
Currently even in heavy rain they clean the wind screen no problem although a tiny bit of streaking.
The plan will be to take it to halfords and get them to fit some better blades, or just wait until I get the mot next week0 -
Can I just pop down there and ask them to fit It then and there ?cattom said:it should be easy enough to change a wiper blade. unclip the old one. clip the new one in. failing that, jump in the car, take it to halfords we fit, tell them you would like some wipers fitted to your car. job done.
I've a feeling it will be very difficult to get the current blades off as I tried everything and couldn't.0 -
I'll repeat, make/model and year of your car?venomx said:@AdrianC was right. I haven't fitted the driver side properly.

I think on balance and the amount of replies this post has generated, in your case yes, just go there and get them to sort it.venomx said:

Hey not to worry. I went down to Halfords and asked them to take off the seemingly impossible blades which I installed a few days ago. It wasn't straightforward and he had to use a serious amount of force. However I now have replaced it with a bosche blade which are easy to work with .. thanksneilmcl said:
Again, and for the third time asking, if you give us the details of your car we can probably give better help, including finding the better wiper blades for the job. No sure why you keep ignoring the request.venomx said:
The stock ones took seconds to take off but the replacements were cheap and difficult to work with.maxsteam said:
At some point you should stop posting silly questions on forums. Wiper blades cost a few pounds each and are about as easy to change as a light bulb.venomx said:
Asking as i'm new to driving and never had an MOT/Service before. Thanks
If the MOT requires no more than a wiper blade, be happy.
Anyway I'll pop down to halfords and get some better Bosch blades
I appreciate you help, but I don't like disclosing personal information. Hope you understand

What's personal about telling us what car you have, there will literally be thousands of identical motors on the road.venomx said:

Just to cheer up Greta, and my does she need some, I replace only the rubber insert. That results in the whole of the plastic blade not being thrown away. Also quite money saving.0
