Changing wiper blades is trivially easy. They're a cheap consumable, and need replacing regularly - I do mine annually, and you can tell the difference.

Why would anybody leave them until they're SO bad they fail the MOT...?

    Trivially easy?

Grab the old blade.  Wiggle and shove the old blade in every possible direction to see if it will come off.  Discover that there's an unlabelled button you have to press, while wiggling and shoving.  Eventually, the years of accumulated grime gives way, and it comes off.

Open the box with the new blades.  A small pile of plastic adaptors falls out.  Trial fit each of the adaptors against the wiper arm.  None of them fits.

Gently pry the old adaptor from the old blade, hoping the aged plastic doesn't shatter.  Then try to get the adaptor on the new blade it was never designed to go on.

Now try to work out how the blade goes back onto the arm.  There are at least four ways to try, and all of them are wrong.  It's like USB, only worse.  Eventually get lucky.  Wiggle and shove the new blade onto the slightly old and rusty arm.  Hope it doesn't fall off again the first time you use the wipers.
You forgot the bit when the old wiper blade suddenly comes off in your hand leaving the wiper arm to spring back onto the windscreen cracking it. Luckily it was the girlfriends car :#

When we burst  two tyres on a pothole the one spare wheel was not much help.

The breakdown guy told us he regularly arrived at a call out for a flat tyre to find a stream  of gunk down the road. Useless stuff he said.

When I had a flat tyre the nice gentleman who arrived 3 minutes later changed the wheel for me.

I changed the blades at the front and rear however The right one does wobble a tiny bit, however it is firmly clipped into place and cleans the window properly. Is this normal ? Perhaps it needs to be worn in a bit ?

Nice one.  Everyone should be able to change their own wipers.  The wipers only fit one way so if seated properly will be ok

It took a bit of head scratching but got there in the end.
Is it normal for it to wobble a tiny bit when in use ? I heard you need to wear them in a bit

No, wobble is not normal. And, no, it won't take the wobble up as it "wears in". You must have assembled it wrongly.

Odd. Both sides are clipped in the same ( I heard and felt it click into place ) but only the drivers side one wobbles a bitt

Passenger side seems fine - 14" blade
    Drivers side is a 24"

Does it matter (  for the drivers side one )  which side is left or right ?? Or can the blade below fit left or right ( on the drivers side )

You will probably find it only lays flat on the windscreen if you put it on the right way round.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
