  • There seems to be a lot of people getting this strange virus. Doesn't even seem to be a full blown cold, just weird throat, aches & pains. My DH had it, tested negative. GS2 had it at same time. Then I thought I'd got it, but mine seems to have just given me a sinus infection sort of thing

  • I know this will sounds stupid but what do you mean by ‘overnight oats’? Thanks you.
  • Delurking to say well done on the weight loss v impressive and your village poppy crochet is gorgeous

your food always makes me feel hungry ;)
sorry re your MIL / it’s always a shock and sad no matter how expected it is

@barondale overnight oats are where the night before you make your oats - people add cold milk, flaxseeds, often berries and chia seeds and cover and put in the fridge - in the morning the oats are delicious and plump with flavour
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

SW oats are usually made with fat free natural yoghurt rather than milk and just frozen fruit not seeds etc added to them.  If they need sweetening then a little bit of granulated sweetener.  Nobody doing SW wants to waste syns on things that they don't need or want!

I know it’s a personal taste but doesn’t sound like something I would enjoy. I’m a very plain eater lol. Porridge oats, boiled with hot milk and then add sugar is enough for me lol. Unfortunately not too often, even though I love it, because my stomach tends to feel heavy afterwards. I like the idea of a good breakfast but have to be careful as my stomach only likes cold milk and very high bran cereal.

Thanks to others for letting @[Deleted User] know what overnight oats are!  I find them a real boon as I don't have to fiddle in the morning, just grab them from the fridge.

Well, we now have the date for MIL's funeral 7 December.  I have booked a TL accommodation in London - yikes it's expensive, but we need to be in South London so it was  slightly cheaper.  Central London was horrendous!  We have decided to drive 4 odd hours, park up and then get the train for an hour into London.  To get the train from Cornwall to London would have been just under £300 for two - yes I kid you not!!!  We are going the night before and will meet up with DS which will be nice.  We will leave after the funeral and come back home.

I had a good buy in the charity shop today.  I needed a black coat - got a Laura Ashley one for £15 - am delighted with it.  Starts off black and fades down to grey towards the bottom.  It is 3/4 length.

I lost 2.5 lbs at SW this morning - so delighted with that.  One more pound to go and I will have lost a stone since September.  I was hoping to lose a stone by Christmas so I am well on track.

Breakfast was overnight oats. lunch soup and tonight curry and prosecco!

  • what a great find the coat was. When my mum passed in Dec 2020, it was covid restrictions still and I was wary about going round the shops and ended up paying £95 for one online. Just hope it still fits as the years go by. We also had to travel for the funeral, but not as far as you, only 155 miles. But as it was covid we weren't allowed a wake afterwards and only a maximum of 15 allowed in crematorium. We drove there and back same day, and actually ended up taking DD with us, she sat in the back and we all wore masks. Seemed so silly for her to drive in a separate car, just 'cause she lived in a different house. But we all had to sit separate when we got there. Can't believe its nearly 3 years.

When I look back on the Covid years it was so sad for people who lost loved ones during that time.  I remember when DH came to stay, the rules had just been relaxed but I was really scared and when he walked through the door we didn't hug or get close and we all sat apart and kept our distance.  It was so strange and so sad - we just didn't know what to do.  When he left a week later we all hugged, not sure we should have done, but I needed to.

Today a bit of OU study first thing and then I have made some bread - a farl from Paul Hollywood's book.  We are out tonight at our friends for dinner - I am taking an Eve's pudding which I baked a few weeks back, so I have taken it out of the freezer and it will be ready to heat up when we get there.

Breakfast was overnight oats, lunch the last of the home made carrot soup and some farl and then out tonight.

It has turned cold here, and its very overcast and dull, so I think a cosy afternoon of sewing and watching films before we go out.

Yesterday DH got the decorations down from the loft.  Most are now up!  The hallway and sitting room look like fairy grottos - I love my Christmas fairy lights.

This morning I did some more OU study and after lunch I went round to my friend's for a sewing session - I have now finished a snowman decoration which was a gift with a cross stitch mag I bought at the weekend.  When I came home I did some more Christmas decorating.

Breakfast was boiled egg and soliders, lunch home made pea soup with bread and tonight we had Mary Berry's chilli with jacket potatoes and some grated cheese on top.

its gone very cold here.  We have put the underfloor heating on in the kitchen.  Will give it a couple of days and then I will check online and see how much electricity it uses and then adjust timings as necessary!

Underfloor heating in the kitchen has now been turned off - its expensive to run, but more than that its heating a room we don't spend much time in and when I do the oven is on and I'm rushing about cooking so don't get cold anyway.  We didn't have it on at all last year and I think it will be the same this year.

    All decorations are now up.

I fell off the SW wagon today - ended up having a gingerbread hot chocolate with whipped cream and a mince pie at the village cafe - it was delicious.  I won't be going to SW on Friday as we will be away at MIL's funeral.  But, I mustn't go off the rails now.  I have now lost a stone and don't want to start putting it back on as I do feel so much better now.

Some OU study done first thing - my second assignment is due in a couple of weeks. so tomorrow and Wednesday morning are set aside for some serious study and attempting to get it more or less finished.

Thursday morning we will leave a silly o'clock and drive to London for the funeral.  We are booked into a travel lodge hotel just outside of London and wills top there on Thursday night, getting back home Friday.

Sunday we go away for another night which I am really looking forward to, we are having a nice meal out on the Sunday night - it was booked several months ago and has come at the right time for DH and me.  Back home on the Monday and then back to normal on Tuesday.
