Bit of a splurgy day today as it was payday and to make sense of the cutting back we did on our trip to Polperro.

    Breakfast was toasted teacake.

    Then we went food shopping.

After that we went to the local hotel and had a full blown afternoon tea with the sandwiches, cakes and scones.  We used our 10% locals discount card so I felt slightly better!

We were going to have one of those Sainsbogs bags of Indian food, but we are too full, so we may just have a snack a bit later and the Indian will keep till Sunday.

Did some planning for a holiday in April next year – got a good bargain of £124.60 for one night stay in Bournemouth including dinner, bed and breakfast for the two of us – its a small room with no window, but will do us for one night.  We also booked up for 3 nights at a hotel in Lymington which we stopped at last year and really enjoyed.  We stopped there before going to the IOW.  This year we will do some bits and pieces around the New Forest.  That is just bed and breakfast and I got £36 off the booking.com price, by booking directly with the hotel and using a code they provided.

Its amazing how booking direct seems to come out cheaper these days instead of using the likes of Booking.com or Hotels.com.  We are going to visit my dad in August and have to stay at a hotel and it was loads cheaper to book direct.

Hope you enjoyed the afternoon tea.

A busy weekend.  Friends round for a BBQ on Saturday night and Sunday spent doing some gardening and tidying up.

Today a walk down to the village.  Later on a paddle in the sea.

Breakfast was bacon buttie, lunch coleslaw and salad (left over from bbq), tonight we had sausage, egg and chips.

    An NSD today.

Weather not too good, drizzly most of the day.

Breakfast was porridge and banana, lunch mushrooms on toast and tonight we had jacket potato with tuna mayo.

Spent the afternoon sewing with my friend.

  • Mrs P may I ask when you are due to receive your state pension? I am assuming you are far too young at the moment!  :)

Yes - sadly too young - another 5 years to go!  If they hadn't changed the date I would have been receiving it for a year now so its a sore subject - as I am sure it is for many women.

Up early today - its so hot at night, despite having the windows open its hard to sleep.

Went to the library as a book I had requested was in and took some back, popped to Costa for a coffee - the lovely little independent coffee shop I usually go to was closed and is now for sale :(  Then I went to Sainsbogs and got some treats for the weekend - the pizzas were Nectar priced so I got two of them, plus some salad bits and pieces

DS is home some time tonight (we will need to pick him up from train station).  Not really home to see us though - its a friend's birthday party on Saturday night - but he does have Monday off work, so will go back then.

I've signed up for an Open University Access course in Arts and English Language, as I only have my private pension income I qualify for free.  I am absolutely delighted - if I'd paid it would have been £899.  Its a 30 week course and around 9 hours a week of study so it is perfect for me.  I am really excited about it - starts first week of October.

Breakfast was croissant, lunch cheese and crackers and tonight its either burgers or scampi and chips (that's the choice I'm giving DS)!

Ooh the OU course sounds great. I didn't realise they did income related free courses. I'm on State pension and private pension now, so I suspect I would be over the limit. I did sign up for a couple of their normal free courses though, which I am enjoying and can see loads more on the list I would like. I think I'd probably do more in the winter when I'm not out in the garden etc so much.

Its sad when the independent coffee shops close. Their coffee is normally loads nicer than Costa and also we're supporting local businesses. It often seems like Costa are taking over the world....and Greggs....lol.  They seem to be everywhere.

DS went back to London today, so we had to take him to the train station.  We combined this with a visit to the garden centre for bbq coals and to a sewing shop for me to get some supplies!

Breakfast was pancakes, lunch was sandwiches at the local NT and tonight its home made chicken curry and Naan.

Oh, its all changed on the MSE forum taken me ages to find my diary.  Hope its not just me!  I don;t like it.

    An NSD today.

Firstly we bought the old computer downstairs and DH set it up on my writing bureau – so now I’m all set to work properly when I start my OU course.  We bought the big computer a few years ago and barely used it as I use my laptop and DH has an ipad.  Now though, it has come into its own and I am so glad we bought it when we did.  That took most of the morning.

This afternoon my friend came round and we had our sewing session.

Haven’t really eaten properly today – we had toasted teacakes for breakfast (I bought a pack of 4 yellow stickered on Monday) will have the other two tomorrow.  As time ran away with us doin the computer and then my friend came round, we ended up not having our lunch – so we had pizza and salad about 4.30.  I have taken some oven chips out of the freezer and two rolls – so we’ll have chip butties for supper.
