ArKay said:Does anyone know the legal position regarding paying the new rate if you have not chosen to swap. Specifically, I was on a cheap rate with Green and have been swapped to an expensive rate with Shell. I will switch supplier as soon as possible to a supplier of my choosing with a reasonable daily standing rate - but will I be obliged to pay Shell the very high rate or can I just pay them what I signed up for with Green?
(For information - a few years ago a similar thing happened and I did not pay the higher rate for the single month I was with the company I did not choose and the company accepted that - but what is the legal position as I did NOT sign up to pay for an extremely high rate with Shell.) Thanks everyone.

Another example of OFGEM's incompetence as anyone with half a brain realised that it was a form of pyramid scheme - which has now come crashing down with Green's failure!!1 -
My switch from PfP to Green has gone through. Just got to wait for it to change to Shell.

Email today from cheap energy club says I’ll be moved into Shell Flexible 6. Looking at the tariff info this seems as expected (price capped variable tariff for London region and the figures for gas - I’ve not checked Elec as I only have gas with them - match the ones in the ofgem price cap tables).

You do get a Shell discount card that gives you 3% off petrol and diesel and other offers.

Would be very helpful for those of us not in London and who don’t have a single rate meter.

Well it has been quite a journey these last four years. I am electricity only, dual meter, we have no gas into the house. In 2017 I moved from a long standing Scottish Power contract to Iresa.Tariffs since that timeScottish Power Night 8.61 Day 19.92 SC 26.09 total £987Iresa Night 7.76, day 10.92, SC 23.46 total £612 They went bust in 2018Octopus Night 9.15, day 16.42, SC 20.42 total £8352020Yorkshire energy Night 9.23, day 13.79, SC 19.90 total £730 They went bust in 2020Scottish Power Night 8.84, day 20.68 SC 20.34 total £998Green Night 9.45, day 15.94 SC 22.00 total £825 They went bust in 2021Shell Night 10.609, day 26.585 SC 24.95 total £1269£612 to £1269, now that is some increase. Even from £987 in 2017 on a tariff I had never ever looked at to £1269 in 2021 is also, at 29%, quite some increase.I put in the Shell tariff for having no economy 7 and my total bill will be cheaper so it will be goodbye to the washing machine and dishwasher going on overnight, for a short time. This all has the hallmarks of sort of the early 1970s about it, on the run-down before the miners strikes, no TV after 10.30 and 50 mph speed limits. I have to say I am not with the Governor of the Bank of England and his master plan that inflation will just be temporary; we are at a "high" for a short period. These economists, I am not quite sure where they received their education but it is certainly a different place to where I received mine.0
